I thought these lovely and versatile plants deserved a thread of their own. First a pic of Geranium 'Joy' for Steve! It's slightly pinker than the camera shows. This geranium makes a small tidy clump. The height is not more than 5-6".

I have an unknown seedling that hitched a lift in the chrysanth clump you sent me Geranium. I hope it will turn out to be a very pretty one. It is getting lots of tlc in the greenhouse.

Really? I wonder which one it is! I'll carry on with the thread. There are geraniums for every situation in the garden, and at almost all times of the year. Even in the winter, some geraniums keep their leaves, and have lovely variegations. Geranium phaeum 'Margaret Wilson' is one of these, as is G. phaeum 'Samobor'. Let's take a look at this group of Geraniums. They're valuable in the garden, because they'll grow happily in shaded areas, part shaded, and they can also be grown in the sun. They don't seem to mind what the soil's like, either! They stand up so you can see them, and the colour range of the flowers ranges from white through pink, pale and dark lilac, mauve/purple to maroon and nearly black - which is how it got its common name -'Mourning Widow' - or 'Dusky Cranesbill'. G. phaeum 'Album' G. phaeum 'Lily Lovell' G. phaeum 'Braunvoit' Geranium phaeum - 'Mourning Widow'. They flower from May to July, and will produce more flowers in the autumn if they're cut back.
