I'm going to try Shirley this year. Has anyone any experience of these ? I have grown them for two years with success. I would do so again because it is nice to have a good tomato which is not a cherry variety. They are nice and even and a lovely colour.

I am definitely growing Tomarvellous, even if I have to break the bank. Has anyone tried Tomazing? These come from T&M.
Actually, I have just found that I can have one of each and eight other brilliant varieties, i.e. jumbo plugs, for £16.99. It might sound a lot for tomatoes, but the Tomarvellous and Tomazing only come in plugs and not seeds.

Nice to hear good comments about Shirley. I've only a very small greenhouse ladybird (6' x 5') so I'm going to grow 6 in two growbags.

Why not grow, say 2 Shirley, 2 cherry toms, and 2 something else when the greenhouse is not very large? I learnt from the forum to grow the tomatoes in large bottomless pots (I use supermarket flower pots) and plant these in holes made in the growbags - two to a growbag. The growbag is knocked down and the loose bit folded under. The large pots are filled with compost of course. I have done this for two years and I have been pleased with the results. If you don't feel like doing this, they would be alright straight in the growbags, but watering is a real pain.

I forgot to say that I will be using 'Growpots' in the top of the growbags with extra compost in the middle part. I may well try other toms as well as Shirley.

I am thinking of a little experiment this year. growpots in a growbag V single large pot with a smaller pot on top V bottomless large pot sitting on a tray of pebbles.

I confess that I find little difference between any of them when it comes to flavour. What ever I grow tastes fine to me unlike the bought ones. There's only two of us so 2 - 4 plants (all different) is enough.

I'll be interested to hear your results. I tried growpots in grow bags but it was never that successful, because I couldn't see the compost in the growbag I could never tell how wet or dry it was. I now use large pots with the growpot on top. I bought some mini growpots to try on my chillies and peppers.

There are so many of you all growing so many different varieties. It may be interesting if when fruited, we have a sort of mini-referendum to declare which is the best, for flavour anyway. Especially from those of you who intend to grow so many different ones. I like the smell of the foliage.

that`s a good idea merlin. Tasty and juicy seem to be on every seed packet. Some should read" Acity", "slow to ripen" or "burst easily"

That`s a forth way to try WLF, I`ll have to use the same variely in all. what size of pot would you recomend ?

If you have a solid floor would not a bog-standard pot do, seems a bit complicated to me, but then most things do lol. I once tried ring-culture but found little if any difference.
