another stupid question from me How long does it take for a tomato to grow to full size, it's a little green thing, it seems to be getting slightly bigger and i'm trying to give it a bit of a nip and tuck, to stop new stems and leafs sprouting and let it focus on growing it's little tomato ! I find they tend to shoot up all of a sudden around now and going in to July, just keep nipping the shoots out of the axles but take care not to nip out the leader

Twiams I did not start growing them until the forum started. I have learnt everything from here, and we can ask anything we like. I would never give up home grown tomatoes now.

Whats the best "baby" tomatoes to grow, they're my piggie, Marmite's favourite so i'm sure he'd be very happy if i could grow some of them when the time comes, and it's the right season !

We probably all have a different cherry tomato to recommend, so just take your pick.
Twiams, following on another post you made, be careful with those tomatoes. Take off the extra growths if there are any which are coming from the root and the main stem lower down. Keep the leader going up the cane. You may see little growths in the axles of the leaves coming off the main stem. You can break these off and it feels very satisfying to do this. You should now have a single stemmed plant possibly with flower buds, tied in to the cane. Remember Steve said be careful not to prune this leader.

I've been trying to do this, a science tech from school told me this and i've tried to catch on but i can't tell if it's making any difference yet ! I'm just impatient and want to see more tomatoes growing ! ;D

This is going to sound silly so sorry ... But how long does it take for a tomato to go red ? do they stay green untill they're ready to be eaten or do they start going red as they grow ?

Twiams you win the prize for the most impatient gardener on the forum. ;D The answer from me is that I don't know because I have never timed them. They would need to grow almost to their full size before going red. I think Steve, Esther or Tel may be able to answer this. (Anyone but me!) What stage are your tomatoes at?
Don't forget to put your piccies on the forum.

I tend to just look at my plants and wonder, the green is feeling a little boring and it looks more like a grape than a tomato ! Alot more growing to do before it looks any prettier then I'll have to take a picture of my baby tomato when i next venture downstairs, i've moved it back inside, to be in the kitchen window to hopefully get more of a green house effect and make it grow bette ? i don't know it made sense at the time, but now i've typed it, it sounds a little stupid, but never mind !

The smaller ones don't take too much ripening Twiams so the cherry types will go red first, I'm afraid what they need is sunshine to bring them on...and they will then start ripening on the plants best way to learn is to ask so no matter how silly you might think keep on asking ;D
