I was thinking about pruning too SueA, but I have to keep remionding myself it's only January and we could yet get snow and hard frosts so I'm resisiting temptation. Going to plant some late Alliums instead...and order some Begonias

Thanks everyone . sweetpea, I might just take you up on that!! SueA,I've worked through all the tubs..29 tubs, 4 troughs and a hanging basket all destroyed. I managed to salvage 1 Begonia corm. There are 2 Fuchsia stumps with a couple of roots attached. I'll try potting them up and see what happens. Luckily I took some Fuchsia cuttings that have come through winter really well so thats one good thing. roofgardener, we keep all our birdfood in plastic tubs in my shed, typically we never get mice in there. Its like wildlife is ganging up on me! First moles, then rats in the compost heap, more moles and now destructive mice. Oh and my Chimonanthus is fine...it was a Crinodendron that got marmalised

I went over to the tunnel today, first time for a wee while and every pot of Begonias, fuchsias, gerberas..everything has been destroyed by mice. To say I'm upset is an understatement. I've had some of the Fuchsias for at least 8 years. All the bark is off the Chimonanthus, doubt it'll survive either. I just stood there and blubbed!!

So am I Eli, but we have a small gas camping stove so we used that. I boiled up water and filled a flask for my neighbour behind us as she just has an open fire.

I read today that the space station is tracking the smoke from the fires and soon will be all the way back to Australia. I hope they can be brought under control soon. Its horrendous

It was a wild night, we lost power for 2 hours too, some folks around here lost it for 6 hours so we were lucky. Bright, still windy but not as bad and 4 degrees today.

My latest work, well, Grahams lates work for me .... is taking out 2 apple tree's. One was a Bramley, the other one, I have no idea, it was an eater but stored sooo badly. My greenhouse is going along the side of the garage where the tree's were. So I'm getting a new family apple tree to put in at the bottom of the garden.
