Last year, when I was growing some seedlings, one of the plants snapped of near the base, so I never saw a bloom on it. Managed to dig up a small tuber to give it another chance this year, I planted it in the raised bed at the back of the house. This plant produced its first bloom about 3 weeks ago. Now if this dahlia had been planted on the allotment it would have been pulled and composted. The first bloom. The plant was left to its own devices to start with, it has now grown 10 flowering stems, disbudded the wing buds and and one pair down. Now this is the second bloom on it. Ignore the colour it is a dark red bloom, it is short of the small ring only 5 inch across the bloom, I am hoping next year if it is grown 6 up rather than the 10 up as it is now, it may make a larger bloom That is of course the next bloom out, is like the latter and not the former. This shows how far away it is from the ring grown 10 up, I hope it will be nearer if I try 6 up next year. The bloom is darker than what it is in this picture too.

Birkenshaw Pudsey, is heading for the compost bins when I dig the dahlia's up at the end of the season, it has been rubbish this year, god knows what the judges thought about it at the trial's.

Have you got a lot Tel and how big do you let them get before you start potting them up?

Have you got a lot Tel and how big do you let them get before you start potting them up? It is easier to handle when the first true leaves are forming. I have transplanted some into pots with only the seedling leaves, no problem with them. You always find in a seed tray, some plants will be further on than others.
