they are to nice for the compost heep tel can i ask what u mean by letting them grow straight up can i ask why you do that told u i wasnt 2bright when it came to dahlia matters hope youi dont mind me buggin you with questions Letting them grow straight up means i do not stop them, so it flowers on the first bud formed at the top of the stem, this flowers before any on the stems that come from lower down the plant. This gives me a earlier flower, then if it is no good it can be composted and give the other seedlings more room in the bed.

I found this dahlia seedling growing in the garden. I did not plant it there, the only thing i can think off is that the seed was in the compost i brought from the allotment. Maybe this could turn out to be the best of my seedlings. ;D

A this years dahlia seedling, a collarette. Not quite the right colour captured on camera. More of a cerise colour really, the collar looks slightly paler. Needs another day or so for the pollen ring to develop.

I like the first one too For a garden dahlia it is one i would keep. But there is a hell of a lot still to flower so who knows whats to come yet. The compost bins could be pretty full at the end of the season though. ;D

It is becoming very obvious that your interest in your home garden has grown. You just remember that it is Brenda's garden as long as you do the gravel, etc. ;D Dahlias for the garden. What next?
