How nice to see him so relaxed and happy! Henry went to see the Physio yesterday and she put him through his paces. She says his neck and shoulders haven't been affected, thank goodness. We have to alter his exercise regime for two weeks - very short walks twie a day on the lead. He won't like that! I have to sit with him for 20 minutes each evening with an icepack on the affected joint. He seemed quite happy with that last night. He should start acupuncture in 2/3 weeks' time, then hydrotherapy. We have to keep a diary of when he limps badly and his activity that caused it.

What a lot of work. I gave a lot of time to Brodie when she was having her wounds disinfected every few hours for a week and it was worth it. I hope you don't have to do the ice pack treatment for too long Geranium. At least you and the dog can relax during this time, but I would need to read a book at the same time.

I bet Henry will love all the attention Geranium , not sure if he'll like the 'needles' though!

I think/hope he'll just sit there and accept it all, SueA. As for the ice packs, he doesn't mind at all, and seems to enjoy them. I sit on the floor next to him and watch the BBC News while it's round his leg. Somehow he's realising that people are trying to help.

I'm over all this travel for work and miss the dogs. It is a circus finding pet sitters because no-one wants Schmoo!!! He is turning into a beautiful natured dog though. I take them to dog school on a Tuesday night and they love it so much. A lovely friend of mine takes wallace and I take schmoo. They don't know they failed grade 1 and we are repeating (!!!). Actually Wallace is pretty good, it's just schmoo can't concentrate with all the other dogs. I've only just worked out a formula that works for schmoo. I take him to the beach before class and he runs for miles. Then i take him to the field where the class takes Place an hour before and walk them around the field to get used to the doggie smells and heeling. As more dogs arrive it gets more exciting but at least he gets gradually used to it. When I used to arrive at the same time as 80 dogs he couldn't settle for the excitement.
We are in the dunce retake class with a vicious dog and an 8 year old handler. I had to think of something to curb his excitement so we can move on to grade 2!!
This is my daughter's experience with her two dogs. One is my granddaughter's cocker spaniel which she left with my daughter before returning to Scotland and the Vizsla is the dog my daughter got to keep it company as she works. She never intended to have even one dog as long as she worked, but had to take the cocker. My daughter is very slim, and now skinny with all this exercise before and after work. She works in Cairns, Alice Springs, Darwin and Townsville and has trouble getting a dog sitter. Her friends help out, but they are not 'doggy' people.

Aww, poor Schmoo & Wallace demoted to the 'dunce' class! What a good solution though to take Schmoo for a good run & get him to walk around the field beforehand, it does sound like too many dogs though at 80, no wonder he gets excited. When we had our boxer dog years ago she would have wanted to say hello to every person & every dog so we would never have passed grade 1 either!

We took Henry to agility classes about 4 years ago - he loved it, and we went for a year, but the trainers were not 'people' people, although they were great with dogs. I didn't like the hectoring and blame culture there...so we stopped going.
Yesterday the dog placer came to visit us. He has a portfolio of all the 'host' families, so the next step is to match Henry with one of them. He says Labs are the easiest dogs to 'place', even with medical problems. It's a shame our daughter can't have him, but they have some house problems to deal with - the floor will have to be taken up due to a leaky pipe.

Is this someone who will look after Henry while you are away Geranium? That sounds like a good idea. Would the sitter live in?

No, they take him and his food, bed and toys to the 'pet sitter'. We've done this before and he's had a great time! I just hope the people who look after him will cope with his meds and ice pack etc. It's much better than kennels, and about the same cost.

I have a friend that goes round cat sitting, she has the use of the property while there away and gets to see different places.

Geranium, the sitter must be capable to take this on, so I am sure Henry will be alright. lesley, I can't imagine a cat sitter because there is usually a neighbour or someone to put food in. In my case, the cat is used to dry food in the nissen hut, so we put more out. He gets spoilt with three small lumps of dog food in the evening as he thinks he is a dog but when we are away he has to miss this. He does catch rabbits every day so he is never hungry.

I can't believe it, but we got the date for Henry's first session of acupunture wrong, and missed it. OH has made a new appointment in 2 weeks' time. We've heard from the dog sitter, and have a photo of his 'hostess' and her garden. It's reassuring to read that she's used to Labradors.
