I just thought I'd update you on Henry's howling. We leave the radio on all night, on Classic FM, and it's definitely having a positive effect. Some days/nights have been howl-free and some only minor! I'm glad it's working for you Geranium, they just like to know someone's about, it's like having a comforter

Unfortunately, he must have disliked the composer yesterday morning after his food, because oh my, did he howl! I ignored it for a while but it went on and on and I had to tell him off. It is certainly an improvement on the howl-ometer, though, and I'm sure it is some sort of separation anxiety, as Cherry said.

Poor Henry, you'll have to try him with a few different channels - as long as he doesn't show a preference for thrash heavy metal music! I seem to remember seeing somewhere that giving them a toy with a treat in it where they have to figure out how to get to the treat can keep them occupied when they're alone. I remember when our boxer was a puppy I used to give her a ticking clock wrapped in a blanket, a hot water bottle & a teddy to try to get her to sleep on her own, it took a while!

I felt really mean yesterday when I went down. The back door hadn't been locked and had blown open in the wind - it was freezing cold in the kitchen and he didn't want to get out of his bed. I don't blame him!

It certainly was, and he actually growled (softly) at me when I suggested he might go out for his wee! He was not a happy boy.

...'you left me here in a draught with Wagner on the radio when you know I only like Strauss & now you expect me to go outside to use the toilet when there's a brand new one upstairs I could use?!' Poor Henry must have been feeling out of sorts, maybe his joints get a bit sore & stiff when he's been lying down in his bed all night?

Yes, they certainly do, SueA. I wince for him sometimes. I wonder which is his favourite composer?

Not boring Strauss surely. Maybe he likes Borodin.

Henry's favourite is definitely Bach! Funnily enough I was reading something today which said that cats prefer classical music & it seems to relax them in stresslful situations. They did some experiments with sedated cats testing their reactions to different types of music & classical came out best, perhaps it's the same with dogs & it is a good idea to play Classic FM or similar for them!
