Bob will cry KC as he won't like being left on his own especially as he'll be missing his little pal, you'll just have to try lots of different ways to occupy him. When we had our dog we used to take her for a walk before work & leave her with lots of toys but we used to leave her in the house, at first just in the kitchen which she wrecked when she learnt to open cupboard doors (we fitted child locks!)& then in the entire house where she decided she was happy lying on an old curtain on the bed so that she could look out of the window. When she was a pup I used to go home every lunch to see her & she got long walks at night with O.H. Watching a programme about dogs recently they were saying you should not make a fuss of the dog when you leave or when you get home (but I could never resist) & give them a toy such as the type that you put a treat in & the dog has to work out how to get it out. I'm sure Bob'll get used to being on his own eventually, or you could just get another dog to keep him company!

We have a part Jack Russell staying here in the static caravan and it runs miles after a tennis ball, bringing it back for the next throw. Keeps the dog fit.

Yesterday our son was with him all day, and today, he's now off for summer. I took him for a walk yesterday evening after work before tea and son took him again for another walk round half 8, in between times we played fetch and tug with him. I didn't let him sleep much last night before bed time. It may have helped, I hope it helped, as he didn't want in this morning until our alarm went off at 615. You're right though it's so easy to make a fuss when we get home to him, he's so lovely. I am interested in the toy with the treat inside though, I think that could be good, so I think I have just bought one of those after reading your message. We definitely won't be getting another dog to keep Bob company, that's certain. Infact, I think if we didn't get Bob while we had Harry we probably wouldn't have got another dog. We're glad we do have Bob though, mind you I wish we still had Harry too. Bob does have all of his toys outside with him when we're not there, maybe I should get him a collection of toys to keep only for when we're not there with him to try and get them novelty for him.

My daughter makes up different cardboard boxes with trick methods of opening for her two dogs. These keep the dogs busy looking for the good things inside. I used to change the toys for my son in the same way as you are thinking of doing for Bob. It keeps them fresh like you say.

It's all worth trying, I wouldn't want him upset or frustrated while we're all out. That'd be horrible. Though, touch wood, he'd leaving my plants alone at the moment which is great lol.

Bob might like to sleep in the kitchen KC. This is where my dog sleeps and he spends time in his bed just to be out of the way. He loves it and it is all his. He also has a bed next to my feet in the office.

We did let him sleep in the house a few times, until one time he peed on the wooden floor in the living room (we're open plan) and he still scratched the door, so that put a stop to that but I wouldn't mind trying him again. Unsure what to do but I'm constantly shattered at the moment

A pup will always bring noise, accidents and damage until they grow out of it. The damage and vet bills are part of the expense of the pup. Perhaps newspaper in one area of the kitchen may work. I have seen this torn up though. My daughter-in-law used to get special mat things like nappies for her pup. It didn't use them. Trial and error.

We used to put newspaper down by the back door for our dog when she was a pup & she used it, it gave her the idea to go to the door when she needed to go so it was good training, she didn't bark or cry to go out though, she just thought we were psychic & sat there waiting for someone to notice her & let her out!

We haven't seen Poppy for a long time. She has matured into a beautiful cat Fractal. I love cats and like Poppy's name too.
