She obviously likes being warm, @hywel.

My cat spends time in the greenhouse with me, so when I went away, I put as bed on the bench and she slept and ate in there, which made it easy for the neighbours looking after her.

I'm afraid we're having more trouble with Henry's howling - I was out yesterday and he sat in the garden near the garage (where OH was...) and howled; not just once but several times. He does it when he's in another room from us, too. I am afraid it's a sign of old age and perhaps a touch of doggy dementia.

Oh dear Geranium. He is getting quite confused. As long as he keeps clean habits you will manage.

Poor Henry Geranium, it's awful when you'd like to know what's going on in their mind so that you could help them.

it's sad when our pets get older and start to show signs of ageing, I do hope you can get Henry over this

I'm sorry to hear Henry is exhibiting that behaviour Geranium. I hope he isn't feeling too distressed. I know you will give him all the love you can

My brother in Oz had to have his dog put down last week. he reckons it was probably the hardest thing he's ever had to do. I sympathise with all animal owners who have an ailing pet as i have been there too.

We all have sweetpea, and it takes a lot of getting over.

Thank goodness we haven't got to that stage yet! It must be confusion or some kind of separation anxiety, as he does it if one of us is not in sight.

We had a long appointment with Henry's vet yesterday evening - he had his annual jab and blood test, and a thorough check up. His vet was very sympathetic about the 'brain aging' and has prescribed medication on a 4-week trial - it has apparently helped other elderly dogs. so fingers crossed.

So do we, SueA. We're keeping a log of his howling for the vet - it's scary at the moment, as there isn't really a pattern of behaviour. He was 11 yesterday!

Aww, belated Happy Birthday Henry! I suppose all you can do Geranium is keep an eye on him & try & comfort him when he's in distress, it must be upsetting though.
