Only had part of the afternoon today after coming home from school. Sowed carrots in the buckets and tubs which I have been mixing compost for and also planted potatoes in the bags that I told you about. Sowed some Pak choi in a cell tray from a free packet from the veg society.Never grown this before. Also sorted some dahlias out for the friend that brought me the chrysanths.

This afternoon I went on the allotment and planted all my potatoes.I didn't know whether to risk going because the weather didn't look promising but I'm glad I went. It did rain a bit but not enough to stop me working and I'm just glad I got them all in.There are 7 rows with 10 in each. I put lawn mowings at the bottom of each trench. This helps to combat scab. There are 3 varieties-Winston,Kestrel and Maxine. Also planted some in the buckets and tubs. This evening I have started sowing the tender veg.Sowed some climbing French beans (Rob Roy )in 3 inch pots and sweetcorn (Sundance ) in drinking cups.Fixed two small propagators up in the shed to put them on.I have never done this before but it will relieve the congestion in the greenhouses.

Couldn't go to the hut this morning as I normally do because I was leading a bird walk at Blackleach country park. There were 14 of us and the rain kept off for us so everyone enjoyed it.We saw or heard most of the birds I was hoping to. I try to tell people how to recognise the different bird songs and calls.Walks through the park or in the countryside are more interesting if you can recognise all the birds. Went on the allotment this afternoon.Planted the shallots which were in 5 inch pots and sowed some swedes and turnips. This evening I have sown some runner beans, marrows and courgetes in pots .The beans are on a propagator in the kitchen and the others are on one of the warming beches in the greenhouse. 40 Kelsae onions came from Fothergills so I potted these into drinking cups.

This morning I potted the Brussel sprouts and some cabbages that were in 3 inch pots into 5 inch.I have explained to you before that I do this to combat clubroot. The roots have a larger volume of compost to occupy before they come into contact with the soil.Spent the rest of the morning tidying plants up in the greenhouse and stopping them if they needed it. Went on the allotment this afternoon .Sowed another row of swedes (I ran short of seeds last Saturday) then did some weeding on one of the herbaceous borders but I got rained off at 4.15.

Just had an hour or so this afternoon .Sowed 30 Show perfection peas in drinking cups,5 cabbages in 3 inch pots (I sow these a few at a time to avoid too many being ready at the same time). Also sowed another packet of stocks. Not done any pricking out for a week mainly due to shortage of room in the greenhouse.did some this evening though becase I have made room by putting some boxes in the frames. Pricked out some antirrhinum"Tom thumb",nicotiana"domino"and salvia"seascape".

Went to the allotment this morning. Just had time to stake the sprouting broccoli before I got rained off. So I came home and spent the rest of the day in the greenhouses.Finished going through the pot plants which I began the other day, tidying them up. Sowed some more peas in drinking cups and took more cuttings from the surfinias, bacopas and diascias. Also potted up the last few rooted dahlia cuttings. This evening I pricked out some Cleome,Nicotiana,Lobelia"Queen Victoria" and stocks.

15 plugs of non stop begonias came from Dobies .Transfered these to 3 inch pots. 150 mini plugs of trailing lobelia came from Suttons.Pricked these out this evening into trays.I also pricked out the remaining bedding stocks and cleome. All the pricking out is done now except the show stocks which were sown late and are not ready yet. What am I going to do tomorrow evening except watch Gardeners world!

Didn't do any gardening yesterday and haven't had much time today either. The sweet peas sown in drinking cups a week or two ago were put under the greenhouse staging .Because I am always short of room, boxes of plants were put on top of them. I often put boxes of plants on top of each other but I have to keep looking at them and as soon as those underneath start to germinate they have to come out into the light.Today the sweet peas had started to grow so I put them all in a frame.

This morning I potted 120 Buzy Lizzies from a large cell tray into small yoghurt pots and put them in a frame.I put the bird table away for the summer because it was on a border where I wanted to put another frame to put these Buzy Lizzies in. This border which is alongside the back lawn has 4 frames along it now.In a months time when the frames are no longer needed this border will of course be planted up. Tonight I am going to the veg meeting (which is why I am on the computer now because I am usually home too late ).It is a plant sale and I have sorted 12 dahlias ,all different,to take for them to sell. What I will buy I will have to wait and see what there is but I will tell you tomorrow.

At the plant sale I went to last night £100 worth of plants were sold to make money for the D.A. Somebody bought the 12 dahlias I took for £10 so I made a useful contribution. All I bought myself was an aubergine for £1.There were some other dahlias and plenty of chrysanths and tomato plants there but I have enough of these and there wasn,t much else I needed.I wouldn't have minded some celery and sweet pepper plants but I was outbidded. This afternoon I took some more cuttings of diascia and surfinias.I have decided to tell you what I did this morning on the school page.

Didn't have time to do much gardening today apart from school These three tubs of tulips were in the back garden and I thought they were nice so I put two of them at the front of the house and swapped them with two other tubs which I put at the back. The only other job I did was to pot 4 tomato plants into final 9 inch pots.I will take them to the allotment tomorrow and put them in the polytunnel.
