Dereks Diary continued from the old forums......... I have boxed up the dahlia tubers today. They are in 4 large white boxes and a mushroom box.Two of the large boxes are in what I call the ulility room which is next to the kitchen. One is on a heating mat and the other on a propagator. The other three are on a heating bench in the greenhouse. This bench had not been switched on up to now but has had plants on it.Now that I need this bench for dahlias ,all these plants had to be transfered to the other ,previously empty greenhouse and put on the shelves. Before I did this I washed all the shelves from this greenhouse in Armillatox.I do these using the wheelbarrow under the car port like I do with seed trays. Another job I did today was to pot some hyacinths from three and a half inch pots into bulb bowls.I start them off in pots first then I can match them up better when transfering them to bowls. Dahlia tubers boxed up and put on warming bench The first 120 chrysanth cuttings We had a very wet weekend so I was not able to do much. All I did was repair the seed trays that needed it and washed some more pots.Today has been quite nice but no gardening as I have been at Blackleach all day.Tomorrow, though I will be going to the allotment whatever the weather is like because I have a load of manure comingI don,t need to shift it right away but I will be barrowing it onto the beds whenever the weather is fine for the next week or so.

My manure was delivered on Tuesday but didn,t get much time to shift it.Yesterday though I spent a full day barrowing it onto the allotment beds and I have brought 12 bags home,6 at a time.I need another 12 bags at home yet. This goes on the border round the back lawn and on the chrysanth beds. Not been able to go today but hopefully I will carry on with it in the morning. My first dahlia tuber is growing

Went to the allotment this morning and shifted some more manure. All the beds on the allotment have got some on now except the runner bean/sweet pea bed.I need to dig some trenches here but the ground is frozen.Brought another 6 bags home for the chrysanth beds but I still need another 6. Had to go somewhere else this afternoon but just had an hour in the greenhouse first.Pricked out the onion seedlings into cell trays.

I don't want to mess up your diary with frivolous comments, but thank goodness you have found the time to work it out Derek. We were missing you.

Thanks,Cherry. It took me a bit to get registered. Now I am on I am having difficulty finding the forum.Just phoned Steve about it but he is not in.When I go onto the internet and type in "gardenfriends.proboards.com",I get all sorts of things I don,t want and no mention of the garden forum. If however,I find the Email that Proboards sent me and click on it there, the forum comes up but I shouldn,t have to keep doing that.Anyway my son is coming tomorrow so he may be able to sort it out.As soon as I go onto the internet he made it so that the old forum comes up automatically.I have asked him to cancel that when he comes tomottow.

Go to the home page and add it to your favourites, Derek. That's what I've done. Then you can click on it and it'll appear.

Our horticultural society supply hut opened this morning after the winter break so from now on I will be going every Saturday morning until August when I will be showing most Saturdays. We are not busy yet though. It,s only mad gardeners like me who want things so early in the year. Many people dont start till Easter. Just had an hour spare this afternoon so I sieved some peat to make another batch of seed/cutting compost.Forgot to get a Chempak seed base from the hut this morning so I couldn,t mix it.Will have to wait till next week.

The only thing wrong with what you are typing Derek is the www. is missing off the front, I just typed it like yours in to my browser and it did work though, I also searched on the internet for it and it came up as the second find....but like most do if you can save it to favourites it saves typing it in each time.....I am out tonight too (pub quiz)

Much milder today and I went on the allotment this afternoon and finished shifting all the manure that I want. All the allotment beds have enough on and I brought another 6 bags home for the chrysanth bed and that has enough on now.The next job on the allotment is to dig some trenches for runner beans and sweet peas. This bed needs weeding first though.I need to put manure on this bed after but I have saved some for it.There is rather more manure than I need so I am going to let someone else have the rest.

Didn,t get time to do any gardening yesterday and not much today either. This afternoon for an hour or so I have just done some tidying up in the garden. In the next day or two I will be sowing my first seeds (apart from the onions sown at Christmas). All the seed trays are washed and compost mixed .I just needed to wash all the pieces of glass that go on top of the trays and I have done them this evening.I am not going anywhere the rest of the week so hopefully I will get a lot done.

Surprised that you intend to dig trenches for sweetpeas this late derek. It will be quite a while before the ground settles. If I don't manage to do this before Christmas at the latest they don't get dug. Only top spit cultivation.
