I thought the Diamond Jubilee entry was good too. You did very well with your entries nevertheless. Congratulations Derek.

Lovely flowers Derek, it looks like it was a very good show despite the bad conditions this year.

Thanks for all those comments. I hadn,t much time this afternoon but I fed my baskets and other containers and some of the pot plants with tomato maxicrop and did a bit of potting in the greenhouse. Went on the allotment this evening .Did some more disbudding on the dahlias and also gave them a feed with tomato maxicrop. Also fed some of the spray chrysanths Did some more weeding after. Another reason for going was to see what I have for the next show then I can send my entries in.As soon as one show is finished I am thinking about the next one.It is at Bury next weekend.I didn't have any chrysanths for our show yesterday but there are some sprays just opening so these may be ready. The gladioli have only just started coming.I won the class for one gladioli yesterday with 8 entries in but I should have more next weekend. As far as dahlias are concerned ,at this show it says "giant or large".I won't have any giants but I can show Elme E (I won with these yesterday) and Kenora challenger which are both "large".I will have Jomanda and L'ancresse again and also some poms which I didn't have yesterday. There will also be some Taratahi Ruby and Don Hill and maybe White moonlight and Alf's mascot.

Good selection there Derek. I always think of my grandfather when you go to Bury Show because he was born there. He only came back during the war, but he was Australian then.

I have been at Blackleach country park all day today.Rain was forecast but I decided to do some weeding on the border alongside the visitor centre before it started. The rain didn't come till about 10 .50 so I got most of it done.No large weeds,it was just weeding between plants with a hand fork on my kneeling mat.I will finish it next time I go. It was raining this evening so I went in the greenhouse and finished potting the rooted cuttings taken in July including the herb cuttings taken from the plants I planted at Blackleach.

Hi Derek, i do not know if this is useful to you, Dahlia Judges, this year are not allowed to touch the blooms. Waterlily dahlias, judges are not to use rings on these varieties.

Thanks. Tel. I didn't know that. I have been on the allotment this morning, part of the afternoon and this evening just weeding all the time and went to the re-cycling centre with 12 bags of weeds. There are so many weeds that I am having difficulty keeping them under control. Some beds are just overgrown.

A day of very heavy showers so I haven't done much apart from sorting potatoes for my next show.It was fine this evening so I did some more weeding on the allotment but rain stopped play at 8 .10.

That is the extra rain which has produced all those weeds Derek. Why don't you put the weeds on a big compost heap? Do you buy back the composted weeds from the council?
