You have got me thinking about it now. I would go to that one. Although Esther has been lucky, I can't work out how to do much on Genes Reunited. The other think that happened was that I remembered where my grandmother was born, so I looked up the country town and, lo and behold, all my aunts and uncles dates were there. This came through Ancestry for some reason.

Like a lot of sites....they are easy once you get used to them. I hae an account with GR....but it has changed so much over the last few years......I haven't caught up. I can relate to what your mother did re pics.......I tore up a lot of my ex.....but his family have plenty of others for our children.

We never mention MPs or politics in this house.

I had a reply from my cousins wife ;D They live in Brisbane,Australia- moved there in 2003 to be near their daughter. My cousin is 84 and his wife 74 - she says my cousins memory is not as good as it should be but if I gave her my phone number she would give it to his brother (79)- who lives in Newcastle- and he would phone me ;D ;D ;D John, the man I met through Genes Reunited- kindly sent me a couple of family trees and it may be that one of Dad's sisters and one of his brothers may still be alive - they would be in their nineties . I found out from the trees that Dad had 5 sisters and 3 brothers I can't tell you how excited I am ;D ;D ;D

This is fascinating news Esther ;D....Don't get too excited though until you've got certificates to verify the relationships. I've seen people very very disappointed thinking they have relatives when in fact they've been sold a "red herring". Don't want to dampen your enthusiasm....but tread warily. ....Hope its true though!!

It is so much easier doing family history when you have unusual names to research. Not always. My mother had an unusual surname, but I haven't been able to trace them back very far. My father had a very common Welsh surname, and I've been able to trace that line back much further. And I saved all the old photos birth certs etc, from both grandparents' houses when they died. They would have been thrown away otherwise. Also some big portraits in ornate frames. Now everyone wants coppies of them

I understand what you mean Lou The cousin I will hopefully get the phone call from has my maiden name as his second name- I wasn't told this by anyone - I looked it up on the registers so I am sure I have the right family
