Today has got better and better ;D
A couple of weeks ago I replied to an email from Genes Reunited- someone was just starting to research a couple of names that just happened to be my Grandparents on my Dad's side of the family. Dad's Mum died when he was born and he was brought up by a neighbour who didn't have any children. Dad lost touch with his family - for various reasons - many, many years ago.Just before Dad died he asked me to try and find out about the family. He had a few sisters but it is hard to trace girls because they change their names when they get married. I had an email just now from the person I replied to - he is doing the research on behalf of his best friend- who now lives in Australia. His best friend is my cousin - he is the son of Dad's eldest sister - how wonderful is that ;D ;D ;D He is going to send me contact details ;D ;D

This certainly is a red letter day for you Esther. Do let us know where you learn where your cousin lives in Australia. I am very interested of course.
Sweetpea I for one would believe you, because when you have lived as long as we have, we have done so much and so many 'unbelievable' things have happened to us.

Oh that's wonderful for you. It's a fascinating thing to do. I wish you lots of success I have been doing it since my grandparents died in the 70s. The more questions you find answers for, the more new questions appear, so you never finish it . I am related to someone who could have been Jack the Ripper - it's true ! One of my relations has had a book published about it, and I gave some of the information

Thats good Esther . I tried to do mine but never got that far with it (I did get in contact with one of my cousins on my mothers side through it). Thing is on my fathers side I know very little. My farther and his siblings, mum & dad moved down here from south Shields when he was little that left behind aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc so who knows what family we have now that we don't know about...

Esther you have started something here. Look at Hywel and Rosie. Sweetpea is so far keeping quiet and Floydie has a way to go.
There are lots of uncles and cousins in our family called Horatio. In fact, my father's middle name was Horatio and they were named after Lord Nelson. I believed for years that we were related to him. My grandmother was a 'Nelson'. My father broke the news when he was pretty old that we were not related and I already knew this, but did not want to disappoint him so we all kept quiet.

I'm doing mine but it's very boring and I can't get back any further than 1860 so it's a waste of time

Floydie, you should get your father to talk. It will die with him. Rotherham is a nice name.

I do know we were French Jews on dad's side, and somewhere in that family were something to do with the White Star shipping line, but I've yet to unravel it
