A thread to post photos of your cacti and succulents. This year we tracked down a Dioscorea elephantipes (elephant foot), it is dormant through the summer . . . . . . and then grows an amazing vine during the winter. It is very slow growing, this one is about 20 years old and roughly the size of a tennis ball.

Beautiful specimen Sue, they were always much sought after at the Cacti & Succulent shows, along with Ariocarpus and a few other choice plants

Did you know cacti and succulents are my favourite plants. ? I started this thread with you in mind Hywel. I thought some would find Dioscorea interesting. This is how they start life and it shows how slowly they grow Four years old, it is about the size of a small marble and has three leaves. At seven years old it is the size of a golf ball and just beginning to split. Steve, I just Goggled Ariocarpus, I can’t say I’ve seen one, I do like the look of it, I shall keep my eyes open for one.
