That's a shame Tel, I haven't seen any signs of our other hedgehog for weeks, I saw 'poo' a few times after the other got run over but nothing recently & I stand at the back door for a while each night to see if I can hear them but no luck.

Found a baby hedgehog in the garden today eating the suet treats put out for the birds. I gave it some cat food & went inside to find a box to put it in but when I went out again it had disappeared. I've put some leaves in the hedgehog house & sprinkled some hedgehog food around, I think one of the local cats may have frightened it away, I was going to take it to the animal sanctuary as I think it's probably too small to hibernate but I'll have to see if it appears again.

Bit worried though Grindle as it's wet & it appeared to be on it's own. I 'tweeted' the Hedgehog society & they said watch out for it as it needs help & try & catch it & then ring them.I kept going out yesterday looking all round the garden & behind the pots, I've put leaves in the hedgehog house & food in it's entrance with piles of hedgehog food all round the garden. Went out with a torch last night a few times but couldn't see it & left some cat food, that & some of the other food has gone this morning but no sign of hedgehog. Our local animal sanctuary is listed as a 'hedehog carer/helper' so I'll probably take it there if I find it.

I've found it! I looked in the hedgehog house this morning as the food I'd put in the entrance had gone & it is asleep under all the leaves in there. I covered it back up & called the hedgehog society as they asked, they say wait until around dusk & take it out & weigh it & if it's less than 450g take it in & to the animal sanctuary, if it's over just keep putting food out & keep an eye on it if it starts coming out in daylight again or looks poorly. It had eaten lots of the hedgehog food I put out around the garden during the night so perhaps was just very hungry, will let you know about 'weigh in'!

Baby weighed - only 250g, far too small to hibernate so I phoned the animal sanctuary & took it round a few minutes ago. They already have another about the same size so after it's been to the vet for a check up it will have a companion & will be fed throughout the winter. I took it in a plastic bowl I'd weighed it in inside a crate & they asked if they could take the bowl with it in so I left it, didn't fancy hedgehog flavoured food anyway! ;D Have left the leaves & food in the hedgehog house in case of further orphans! Baby Spike in the bowl before I took it to the sanctuary.

Sue you are quite amazing. Lovely photos of your hedgehog. I wonder if you will find out how it is doing at the sanctuary. We will all be interested now.
