I think it should be fine Cherry, they were going to get it checked over as it could have been ill as it was wandering round in daylight but it looked fine to me, bright black eyes & shiny black nose & no obvious injuries. It looked really cosy in the leaves in the hedgehog box, it had pulled extra ones in & snuggled down, if it had have been bigger I would have just kept feeding it myself but it might have had problems with the local cats who are always in & out of our garden.

I love them too, it's good to see them back around here, hadn't seen many in recent years but at least we know they're breeding in the area now we've seen the baby one.

Have just seen a hedgehog in the garden, it seems to be a good size but I've put out a small dish of dog food just in case it needs fattening up ;D

Have you seen it since Peony, has the dog food gone? I think they're still out & about around here too as it's still fairly mild & they will be alright if they're big enough.

Sue, the dog food has been taken for the last 2 nights and this evening we were out until 8.30 pm so I hadn't put any food out and just as we got home the back security light came on and he was there looking for the food where I usually leave it, but by the time I'd got it in the dish and outside he'd disappeared. I've left the food out in case he comes back. He/she looks a good size and is active and as you say its still fairly mild, so I'll keep putting the food out and keep looking out for him. Hope he decides to hibernate in my garden, there are several suitable places - piles of logs and leaves at the end of the garden under the hedge where it is sheltered and undisturbed. Fingers crossed ;D

He scoffed another lot of food tonight Rosie then disappeared off up the garden at a fast pace. I hadn't realised how fast they can move and he/she climbed up the steps on the path no trouble ;D

'Hoggie' (named by the granddaughter ;D) has been visiting every evening for food, he/she visits first at about 6.30, eats about half the food, then heads off up the garden, and comes back later in the evening to eat what's left.

I know this isn't exactly a very nice subject & not everyone would get excited about it but - I've just seen my first hedgehog 'poo' of the year! ;D That means we must still have at least one visiting the garden, last year I saw a couple of adults, one of which was killed & the baby which I took to the animal sanctuary so I'll start looking out at night to see who is around.
