Mine are going into the garden now. What i do is take out the soil same size as the pot the plants are in , then put the plant in it's pot in the hole, and leave them there until the end of the month when they come out of the pots and are planted properly. That way, the roots in the pots start to emerge from the root ball prior to planting and have a taste of what they will be growing in. Plus of course, should an overnight frost be forecast they can be brought in to the front room, kitchen, downstairs loo, to protect them You forgot the bedroom. ;D
one has enough problems with my dahlias exposure to wind in the garden without subjecting them to a night of torture from my wifes bowel eruptions

I usually give all my dahlia tubers that i have taken cuttings from away at the end of the month. This year now i have more room, i am planting out this weekend, it will be a slight gamble on there not been any more frost though all the Decorative types small and miniature and the ball types and let the bees do their work a little earlier, for seed production. I will not start to the plant out my show plants, until the 28th just in case we do have a late frost. Planted the tubers out this afternoon. need a good summer now for seed production.

Of 102 dahlias grown I plant most of my dahlias 18" apart, with a plot of 12 at 24" apart (luxury). In the main I grow small cactus, miniature cactus, plus small decs, medium semi cactus. I grow 5 or 6 large semi cactus (though not this year as no cuttings) at 18" also. Space being limited. Regards planting, dependant on 5 day forecast I intend to start next Friday 20th May (I have a long weekend including Friday and following Monday leave from work). So Devon growers I imagine your conditions are similar to mine. Regards, Paul

National Dahlia Society website Has anyone seen the videos section? I think its looking brilliant because Dave Gillam is doing a weekly section regards his methods. Excellent. One tip I picked up and never knew was regards dahlias left too long in the pot and having the tapering stem. I know Ive seen it on my dahlias before but never knew. Take a look. Paul

Would you experts like to see the one that opened today? It's called 'Fabulo'. It's not a bit like the description in the catalogue, but never mind.

Hi Sirplant The National Collection is at Varfell Farm, Longrock, Penzance, about 15 miles from my home town. I have never ordered from them. What were your plants like for quality, packing, delivered on schedule etc. I am considering ordering from them next year. Cheers, Paul
