Wind is starting to die down a little. Fred the weather man on our local TV news program said it should have died right down by 11pm tonight. We will see.

Did your pastelles not go to big with just 1 stop and any idea when that stop was.Been on the phone to lochend dahlias and they say they going to be delivered tomorrow need to see how big they are and make a decision within the next 12/14 days wether to plant them out or just keep them for pot tubers for next year.not much point in planting them if they are going to flower to late or go to big,I would just plant some extra ruskin michelle. DC I think you addressed this to me. Dahlias can differ in size depending on area of country. My understanding is that dahlias grower bigger say in Scotland then furher down in England. And I'm way down (about 30 miles off Lands End). No never got too big at 8up and one stop. However you could say grow them 9 up and evaluate how they then compare to the ring size. Keep a record and adjust or not next year. As I say I never had set dates for stopping them as I used to wait until leading bud was pea sized. However now checked my records and Ive written how stopping was carried out 20th June (in the main) so you can assume 3rd week June. Paul

Wait until someone reveals on Twitter

Did they not give a reason for the delay, if not that is very poor customer relations. I would not be a happy man either if i had ordered plants from them for exhibiting.

would have been able to sort you out with alfs mascot but stopped growing it this year gave some pot tubers away earlier on,been wanting to try daves choice myself but can't find any suppliers who stock it, I know dave spencer grows it but i don't think he sells plants anymore.

Ive checked and see Lochend sold Daves this year but based on this years purchases from that supplier I am reluctant.

This horrible wind has delayed the planting out....last year they were planted out on 23 May Today I did a final weed of the beds ...only one or two.....and marked out where each plant is to go with a cane, which has a name label firmly attached to it....got sick of the birds throwing them around last year Someone on another forum mentioned that mothballs were a banned substance now ....anyone know about this?
