Britain is not too fussy Lou. I can't even take a packet of polos into Australia, but I have brought plants back.

Bought 2 trays of violas from the local garden centre, it's the one run by the council & people with learning difficulties, bit worrying as they didn't have a lot of stock & were offering 20% off everything in an 'end of season' sale & when I asked if they had any mini daffodil bulbs they said they had no bulbs at all which they usually do. Could just be they've had a bad season & have not stocked up as winter is coming but I hope they're not trying to run it down & close it.

I'm off to get more pansies etc this morning. I really do need to get the rest of my bulbs in.

Bought a really really big Bird's Nest Fern called Norfolk Gem and a Queensland plant. I have forgotten its name, but the leaves are gorgeous. When I 'googled' it, it said small, but this is really huge and cost a fortune.

A lovely surprise for me yesterday - I went to the little family-run Nursery for my pansies etc, and was told that although the house is still up for sale, they've decided to keep the Nursery. Their prices are so good compared with the 'big boys'. I've saved a lot over the years. I got 8 packs of pansies/violas, three packs of 6 Cyclamen, an Abelia to go in the village sign box, a Heuchera (£3.50!) and a small Euonymus. Then on to Wilkinsons where I bought some hyacinths to plant in baskets as Christmas presents. Off up the M5 again, to the big GC, where I'd seen three Skimmias for the price of two. My two 'Magic Marlot' plants are brought out and used in winter containers each year - but they look a bit 'tatty'now, so I splashed out on new ones. I was wondering if I gave the two 'elderly' ones a bit of TLC, would they recover? Maybe a feed in the spring might help?

You would be repaying them for their "sterling service" over the last few years ;D

Went to Fryers roses & bought some crocus & daff bulbs, a tray of 4 ornamental cabbages for £3.49 with an extra 10% off all those with my Gardeners' World subscribers card & some assorted mini cyclamen which were on offer at £5 for 12- bargain!

That's a very good price, Sue. Mine were £4.50 for 6! I spent a frustrating time online last night with useless and annoying Clematis websites trying to order my last two Clems. Eventually I gave in and went back to Thorncrofts. They had run out of 'Cassis' so I ordered the one I really want - 'Semu' - and an old variety called 'Mary Rose'. It seemed appropriate as it aparently dates back to the 15th century. Their website is very user-friendly. I know their plants and service will be excellent, too, although they're expensive.
