There's certainly something to be said for living wihin reach of such tempting places! You were very restrained, Sue. Are you going again? You said it was the first Market.

Yes, we'll be going a few more times before Christmas Geranium, it's nice just to walk round & look at all the stalls even if we don't buy anything- & I usually manage a hot mulled wine drink while I'm there - I collect the mugs they serve it in each year, you pay a £2 deposit on them & can keep them or get the money back. The bulb & plant stalls are usually Dutch & have lots of bargains, I suppose because it's a bit late in the season & they also have lots of Dutch, German & other Continental food & craft stalls.

It sounds lovely. Never mind - we can't experience everything in life, but I can hear about it from you! I stopped off at the GC on the way to Louise's yesterday and redeeemed the voucher I had. I got a pack of yellow primroses, another trowel and a pasket of b, f and b. No excuse not to have a trowel now - I'll keep one in the greenhouse and the previously purchased one with the other tools. The one I lost has still not turned up!

I am waiting for my best one to show itself too. I just hope it is not on the compost heap. I do miss it even though I have about six.

I'd had that one all my gardening life, so I do miss it. :(I'm sure you miss your old friend too! The new one/s are fine, after a disastrous 'buy' off the internet. It looked a good strong trowel, but it tore away at the welded joint after a session on pink geranium removal! OH has repaired it, but it will only be suitable for light work now. The new ones are Burgon and Ball stainless steel, and they don't have a weld across them.

I hoped that someone on the forum might be famiilar with one of the plants I bought at the NGS lunch yesterday. It came from East Lambrook Manor Garden (Margery Fish's garden) and the owner told me it's hardy - but I don't think it is. Erodium pelargoniflorum. I also bought a spotty Hellebore! ;D

not seen the erodium but googling most places say it's hardy in this country

The spotty Hellebore is one with a difference.
My latest plant purchase is a Rowan tree from Wilkinsons. It has to stand up to the fen winds with no shelter. I have been waiting for Sorbus aucuparia (wild). It is going next to the house car park. When I used to do hillwalking in the Galloway Hills, I noticed that derelict primitive houses always had a Rowan outside, which would still be there. I will have to put a penny underneath to help keep the witches away.
