I went to the bedding plant place yesterday so I could make a start on revamping my containers. It's huge greenhouses with so many plants in them it it looks like a rainbow! They only open from Easter for about 3 months if that and their prices are amazingly low - £1.50 for a Pelargonium, £2 for a box of 6 Cosmos or Nicotiana. I shall have to make another trip when the Narcissi in a few of my containers die off. I've given up getting mail order plug plants and growing them on - it's much easier to get them from this 'warehouse' and cheaper, too.

I used to live in Galloway Lou. I hope you went to Cally Gardens which is Alan Gray's favourite nursery. Logan is good and also Threave Gardens at Castle Douglas. I lived near New Galloway on the River Ken.

I used to live in Galloway Lou. I hope you went to Cally Gardens which is Alan Gray's favourite nursery. Logan is good and also Threave Gardens at Castle Douglas. I lived near New Galloway on the River Ken. Didn't go to Cally.....We had a very good visit to Threave , gardens and house. Our Head Gardener at The Alnwick Garden gave us a conducted tour. He ran the House and the Garden for many years before he came to us 5 years ago. It was his first visit back since he left, so it was a bit of a "sentimental journey" for him. They made us very welcome. He actually came from Kirkcudbright and we visited Broughton House and Garden. We started off with a visit to Houghton Hall Garden Centre near Carlisle.....Pippa Greenwood was supposed to be there promoting veg growing, but she was late and we couldn't wait. We had a "special" visit to Charles Jencks Garden at Portrack House, Holywood."The Garden of Cosmic Speculation." It opens only one day a year under the Scottish Garden Scheme, but through our Head Gardener's contacts.....we were allowed to visit with a tour by the head gardener there. Unfortunately it tipped down with rain the whole afternoon.....but I managed to get some photos......an interesting place!! Our last visit was to Glenwan Gardens at Dunragit, by Stranraer. Now that is a Wonderful Garden!!!....If it were mine, I would never leave it.

That sounds wonderful - glad you enjoyed it. I went back to the bedding plant place and bought another trolley-load of 'pretties'.

I needed larger container plants, so I went to the GC. They had red Osteos - a wonderful vibrant colour - but they wouldn't have fitted in with my colour scheme. The freeby plant this time was a lovely healthy Hosta! ;D

Peony I think Morrisons are great for plants. The clematis they are selling at, I think, £5.99 are just fabulous, with lots of flower buds.

I lost all my fuchsias but hope to start up a collection again and also coleus. They had some lovely looking cacus plants at Aldi too if you like that sort of thing.

We had a visitor yesterday who wanted Swingtime, so I must tell him to visit Aldi. We don't have one here.

Yesterday I went to the best plant fair I've ever been to! It was at Yarlington House near Wincanton - quite a journey for me, but well worth it. I found some great plants - one I'd been looking for since I found the first one three years ago...Thermopsis lanceolata. Unusual plants: Impatiens omeiana (probably rather tender, but I could over-winter it) Primula polyneura Plus very good sized pots of Persicaria bistorta 'Superba', Geranium cantabrigiense 'Westray', Chaerophyllum hirsutum 'Roseum' and a Baptisia australis. I also found a small Rodgersia and a Filpendula rubra. On the way home I collected the two ordered Stylophorum lasiocarpum and an Achillea 'Terracotta'. I found an Anisodontea there as well - perfect to fill a space in front of the obelisk. I hope there won't be any need for last minute dashes to fill any more 'gaps'. I have a few 'spare' lime green Nicotiana grown from seed which are great as fillers.
