I went on a plant hunt yesterday - to fill gaps, replace the plants that died after the flood, and buy some more shade plants for the new area I've de-stoned. I realised on the way home that the soil level is far too low in there, so I might have to buy some compost or topsoil to fill it before I can plant it up. I found a Polygonatum commutatum, a Pulmonaria 'Blake's Silver' and a Brunnera 'Jack Frost'. I've already got several plants I've rescued or propagated, so I may have enough now. I also got three little pots of Thymus lanuginosus and a Lavandula pedunculata, as well as a Lav. stoechas 'Rocky Road' and another 'Hidcote'. I fell for a pink large- flowered Schizanthus - nothing like the ones I grow in the greenhouse! I had to ask what it was. That will stay under cover. What else? A Salvia 'Caradonna', an Agastache 'Blue Boa', a replacement Caryopteris 'Heavenly Blue' and a Phlox paniculata 'David'. It seems to have been Mediterranean-type plants that gave up the ghost after they got drowned...which is hardly surprising. I spent quite a bit, but I feel happier that the garden will look a lot better. I suppose I'm feeling a bit panicky about opening the garden!

I've had an e-mail from MacGregor's to say that my Anemone 'White Swan' and Viola cornuta plants are on their way by courier - they're due to arrive today. ;D

Sorry - 'Wild Swan', not 'White'. They did come and they're all good plants. ;D I had a nasty thought yesterday morning - reading an article in GA, I saw a photo of a Clem facing south and a comment about it needing cooler roots. I hadn't made that provision, so I went off and bought some plants to place in front of each of the new Clems in the wall border to shade the roots. I chose Convulvulus cneorum which should do well in that situation. I struck lucky too - they had Euphorbias at half price, and I found three large pots of ferns (Polystichum setiferum) reduced from £8.99 to £3 each! So along with an Aruncus and a Smilacina, the apple tree bed is filling up nicely. I did fall for a new Geum - it's perfect for my back garden. It's Geum 'Eos'.

;D ;D When I got mine, they looked like little nobbly sticks - no roots in sight!
I got a few unusual plants at the plant fair yesterday - Lupinus chamissonis, Epimedium x youngianum 'Niveum', Primula sieboldii 'Sun Bonnet' Salvia 'Amistad' and Centaurea montana 'Purple Heart'
The Salvia is a baby and will have to grow on before I can plant it out.
