I was very grateful that I could speak to Jean, because she told me that the stream had gone down a little and all was well. I still looked at the forecasts for the SW though! So - here we are back in the rather less comfort of our house. Henry was such a happy dog in Richmond - he could lie down on carpets, and not have to go up and down stairs. He loved it there!

It will be like a new house when it is all sorted. Tell Henry not to act like a spoilt child. I think he just liked all the attention.

Aww, poor Henry will be trying to get himself adopted! ;D Glad you've had no more flooding Geranium, it still looks very bad down in the S.W. area on the news.

I've just watched the local forecast and here we go again! It was dire. We won't be taking our flood defences down yet.

I think we might need it, Sue. I can't see the stream level yet, but I can hear it roaring...Fingers crossed. Andy's son came yesterday to check the damp points (they drilled the holes last week) and he was pleased with the way everything is drying out. The very last thing we need is more water in the house - we'd have to start all over again!

An update - although we're not completely dried out yet, we've had the dining room floor measured to get an estimate for a new carpet, and we went to a shop in Taunton to look at carpets - they're coming next Wednesday to give us an estimate for the hall and stairs. Andy came again yesterday and is pleased with the drying progress. He says we won't need to strip off plaster. Our local decorator and a floor expert have been, and they'll also put in estimates. With any luck, they might be able to start work within the next 10 days. It's going to be wonderful when the noisy machinery goes! Something to look forward to. I have to ask the Loss Adjuster if I can claim for my poor dying plants - Andy says he hasn't come across this before! The Insurance company are sending two people out to check on the situation and on the entire claim next week. At least things are happening at last.

That's good news Geranium. I'd be frightened to have the place decorated & put new carpets down though until you've got some new flood defences but you have to take the plunge don't you if you want to get back to normal, it must be awful having to live upstairs.

I am frightened, Sue, but we have to get our home back. We had the Insurance renewal notice yesterday - it's gone up a lot, but they are still willing to insure us, thank goodness.
OH is busy planning flood defences and we hope the Environment Agency will approve of them so we can get them done ASAP.

Thank you. Richard (our decorator) came yesterday and made a detailed list of everything he's got to do, as agreed with Andy. He says he'll be here on any days he can't work on his current job - which is outside. So we have to get paint ASAP! He has booked us in for two weeks' time anyway. The flooring experts have been busy too - they're trying to find an exact replacement for the wood floor we had in the Garden Room - but they can't fit it until they've laid another screed. We'll have to keep Henry away from there somehow - we don't want him waltzing around in wet gluey stuff! Today I'm hoping to pick up wallpaper samples and match pots of paint to get the wall colour right.

Good Geranium. Choosing materials is the nicer side of decorating.
