It is good news that the plaster has not to be stripped off. That will quicken things up for you.

Yes, there is a little plastering to do, but not everywhere as we'd feared. :)We spent a whole afternoon browsing through wallpaper books yesterday. I took a photo of the rug we like (on my laptop!) and a curtain, so we could see the effect all together. Those books are sooo heavy my back hurts today! A bit more good news - their sale starts on Saturday, so the wallpaper will be cheaper. I couldn't believe how much a roll it is! We were allowed to bring three books home with us, to look at the wallpaper/s in our light. We bought four match-pots of paint too - we'll have a stripey wall today to get the 'right' colour. Brilliant white would look dreadfully stark, so we want a slightly muted white.

We used a creamy shade of white on the door and skirtings of the newly decorated toilet and will be doing the hall next. I agree that white is now too white compared to the soft colours of the walls.

That's good news Geranium. I'd be frightened to have the place decorated & put new carpets down though until you've got some new flood defences but you have to take the plunge don't you if you want to get back to normal, it must be awful having to live upstairs. Not the best turn of phrase Sue under the circumstances This time next year this will hopefully be but a distant memory.

I could have put 'you have to dive in' Sweetpea, that would have been even worse! ;D At least you're getting a bit of pleasure now Geranium choosing your new wallpaper etc., it'll be like a new house when you've finished!

Oh, I can't wait! OH has said how tired he is of the way we're 'living' at the moment. He's started painting little areas on one wall with the match pots, so we can choose which one looks best.
Today we have another carpet fitter coming as the Ins. Co. want two quotes. Then two QA people are coming on behalf of the Company to do an 'audit'. They'll check that everything has been done correctly so far, and that we're happy (haha) with the way things have been done. They apparently do this in 50% of all claims. I expect there will be yet more forms to fill in!
I think I'd like to go and buy my new mixer and send the receipt off - at least that might cheer me up a bit. It depends on how long the QA men are here.

AMAZING!!! Andy turned off all the fans and dehumidifiers yesterday afternoon - we have silence at last. He's coming tomorrow to check the dampness after two days without machines, but we all hope that he doesn't find any - then they'll take the machines away. The QA men asked a lot of questions and made sure everything was being done properly, and that we are happy with the service we're getting. I know from comparing notes with other flood victims in the villlage that we've been exceptionally well looked after. Today we've been to Swindon - a round trip of 200 miles! We went to look at rugs at a huge warehouse there - and the one I'd 'chosen' via their website is definitely the right one. ;D They'll keep it for us until we're ready for it. Things are looking a lot brighter.

Thank you, Esther. :)It's amazing what a difference it makes not having the machines on downstairs. I really hope they don't decide we need them on again.
