This is the border alogside the visitor centre at Blackleach country park that I have been telling you about. It was supposed to be a wild flower border but I plant some of my spare plants in to fill gaps. You can see wild flowers in the picture but the antirrhinums and penstemons were some I put in last year and over wintered and are giving a good show.

Congratulations on winning a prestigious award. We are very lucky to have you as a Garden Friend.
The boxes of onions and shallots look fantastic. They are all a lovely even size.

This afternoon I went to the tip with another 10 sacks of weeds from the allotment. On the way there I called at church to plant a few spare bedding plants in the garden there. I then went to school to feed the tomatoes. Went on the allotment again this evening. Weeded the onion bed again because I wanted to plant the fennel on it. It wasn't overgrown like some of the other beds so it didn't take long.Planted the fennel where the onions had been that I harvested the other day. After that I finished weeding the root crop bed which, a few days ago was really overgrown.

As you probably know I sow brassicas in batches, a few at a time so that too many are not ready for harvesting at once. Approx half of the bed was planted from the first sowings and the next batch are ready for planting. However the rest of the bed was full of weeds so that has been my job for today. I got it finished but it took me most of the afternoon and evening. Before I went I dressed the onions that I brought home yesterday and put them in the shed with the others.Today I brought home from the allotment two nice cauliflowers and another bucket of sweet peas. Guess what I realised while I was sat dressing the onions. I told you that I had to go to Harrogate on Sept 13th to be presented with the N.V.S.fellowship. Well, it was exactly the same date (the day before my birthday) that I went to Harrogate and won the final of the Garden News Mastermind of gardening competition in 1984 .Isn't that a coincidence?

Been at Blackleach country park all day but the only gardening I did was to plant 5 heucheras in the fish shaped bed. Went on the allotment this evening and got the root crop bed ready for planting or sowing.Put growmore on and raked the soil as fine as I could. Also raked in a bag of old compost.Did some more weeding after.

Had almost a full day and evening on the allotment. On the root crop bed which I got ready for planting yesterday ,I sowed a row of swedes and planted beetroot and kohl rabi. These had been started off in small Jiffy pots or Jiffy sevens. Staked and tied up the broad beans then spent rest of the time weeding. Brought home the first courgettes.

Rosemary needed the car this morning so I did some jobs in the garden. Jobs at home have been neglected a bit recently because of all the weeding on the allotment.Got rid of some weeds down the back path. Some plants in the greenhouse needed potting on but it was so warm in there that I put them under the car port and did them there. The car port is shaded in the day time as it is on the North side of the house. Potted 8 coleus and 4 begonias from 5 inch to 7 inch pots and 2 tomatoes into 9 inch. In the afternoon I went to the tip with another 10 sacks of weeds from the allotment. Harvested the Blue Belle potatoes I had grown to put on the veg stand at Tatton Park . I had started some off in bags in the polytunnel at school and some in buckets on the allotment. Carried on with the weeding after.Even the annual beds that I had weeded and planted only 3 weeks ago have hundreds of tiny weeds coming up again and also the paths between the beds. I treated these with weedol to get rid of them before they get any bigger. There is a picture of these beds in Garden News this week.
