We went shopping this morning. Heather had bought me a Wilkinsons token for fathers day so wen went there and I spent it on some new secateurs. Can't remember if I have told you before but we have two step great grandchildren on Anglesey, Mia (8)and Tommy (6). Heather took us there this afternoon. When we arrived , their dad said "we have a job for you". They had bought some plants in cell trays and they wanted to plant some in two pots about 8 inches across and they didn't know how to do it. They had a bag of compost.I told Mia to fill the pots and water them and showed her how to plant them. She put 6 petunias in each pot. They had more plants but I thought 6 was enough in each.

Today is our sixty-second wedding anniversary which is one reason why we came to Heather's this weekend. We didn't do anything special today, though. We went a walk with Heather round the lake this morning and this evening watching birds and looking for wild flowers .Heather has got interested in birds and wild flowers. This afternoon she took us a ride to somewhere we have not been before to a wood owned by the Woodland Trust and we had a nice walk there. We are going home tomorrow, but what time we leave depends on the weather. Heather has been off work yesterday and today but she is working tomorrow so we won't see her. If the weather is fine we will stay till mid afternoon but if wet we will leave in the morning. I think the boys are both working.

We went another walk this morning , round the harbour then went in Wilkinson's again. Set off for home this afternoon and arrived about 5.30. Journey wasn't as bad as it was going last Friday. I hadn't got any winter brassica seeds so last week I ordered a packet of sprouting broccoli and one of savoy cabbage from Suttons. The arrived while we were away and I have sown some this evening in 3 inch pots, 12 of each variety,3 or 4 seeds in each. They would have been better sown earlier but we will see how they go on. I also did some more disbudding on the dahlias and chrysanths. I am now going to show you 4 pictures of Heather's garden that my grandson Alex has done a marvellous job re-designing. Thanks, Cat. This morning I fed my baskets, tubs, dahlias and chrysanths again. We went shopping this afternoon , then I went to school. I fed the tomatoes and tidied them up by removing side shoots and dying foliage. I then cut down the potato foliage , like I did on the allotment because of blight, and staked and tied the broad beans. Went in the greenhouse this evening and potted 20 rooted pelargonium cuttings into small yoghurt pots. Today I had word that the last existing September show has been cancelled so I won't be able to show any dahlias or chrysanths this year. There is just one at Whitefield on November 7th which has not yet been cancelled so I am hoping this goes ahead. It is mainly a late chrysanths show but I don't grow these any more ,but there are classes for other flowers and veg.

Many of the fuchsia cuttings that I took a few weeks ago died before they rooted so I took a lot more today and also a few geraniums.I have 9 potato bags with potatoes growing and I cut the haulms down like I have done on the allotment and at school. I have said before that I like ladies mantle but it seeds itself and I don't want it all over the garden so I cut off all the dead flowers to prevent them seeding. It started pouring down about 3.00 for an hour so I just sat reading under the car port. It wasn't raining this evening so I risked going to the allotment. Tied up the sweet peas again but some of them have died and I don't know why. Disbudded the dahlias again. Picked the first runner beans and some more lettuce and courgettes . Brought home some sweet peas and a nice bunch of dahlias.

Went on the allotment this morning and again this afternoon after going for a walk and I dug up all my potatoes. I dug over the ground again after in case I missed any, which always happens .There were 35.8 kilos altogether. I don't know if any of you are doing this but I am taking part in a survey for Sheffield University. This is why I had to weigh the potatoes .They want to know what proportion of the fruit and veg we eat is grown on allotments and how much is bought.I have to weigh everything I harvest both from the allotment and at home for 12 months. When digging up my potatoes this morning I kept getting a visitor-a baby robin.I am going to show you some pictures of it and then some of my dahlias and chrysanths on the allotment and a vase of dahlias I brought home.
