I haven't had time to do any gardening jobs today except checking my seeds in the propagator which I do every morning.

I went to the hut about 10 30. When Heather is here at weekend looking after Rosemary I can go at normal time, 10.00 but when she isn't here I don't like leaving Rosemary any longer and I take her a drink at 10.00 and sit with her for a bit. This afternoon I just went to the allotment for some cabbages because Martyn is doing our tea today and he wanted some for that. There were about 6 left but they were only small so I brought them all home and prepaired some for tea.The rest will keep till we need them again. I went in the greenhouse a bit after and took another 28 dahlia cuttings.

It was raining this afternoon but Martyn wanted to take us somewhere because it is mothering Sunday. We went to R.H.S.Bridgewater again and looked round the shop then intended going in the cafe but it was full and there was nowhere to sit.So we came away and went to a large garden centre. After looking round we went in the cafe which is much bigger than the one at R.H.S. We went out for a meal this evening.

Had an hour on the allotment this morning. We haven't had a cleaner for about 3 weeks. When we have had one before she has come once a week and done one hour.We have had one this afternoon for two hours and she is going to do so every two weeks. This gives me a bit more freedom so I went to the allotment again this afternoon while she was here. I finished weeding the bed I have been doing recently which will be the onion bed.

It rained this morning but was dry this afternoon.I went in the greenhouse this morning to sow some brassicas.I sow three or four seeds in three inch (7.5cm) and thin them to one when they germinate.I sowed 8 pots each of cabbage"Kilazol", cauliflower "Clapton" and broccoli "Gemini".I realised that I had no Brussel sprouts because I had forgot to order any.So this afternoon I went to my local garden centre for a packet of seeds and sowed 16 pots of them. I very much like antirrhinum "Mme butterfly". I show it in the antirrhinum casses at the shows that I go to and in many of my mixed vases. However, seeds of this variety were not in any of my catalogues so I ordered some plug plants from Parkers. These arrived today so I transfered them to cell trays. Some plugs contained two plants so I split the and finished up with 80 plants altogether.

Decided to go to the allotment this morning but on my way there it started raining so I came straight home and went in the greenhouse.Potted about 40 rooted chrysanth cuttings into 3 inch pots. Some of my asters didn't germinate so I went to the garden centre for another packet this afternoon and sowed them.

Showery today so I had to have my umbrella up for most of the walk this morning. Had an errand to do on my way home from Blackleach this afternoon and didn't have time for any jobs after.

Mostly dry today. 144 plugs of petunias arrived yesterday while I was out and this morning I transferred them to cell trays. Many of the plugs contained two plants so I split some of them up and finished with 160 plants.72 plugs of gazanias came this morning. Took Rosemary a walk first this afternoon, then I transferred these to cell trays. This evening I have rubbed a lot of labels. I write all my labels in pencil and it rubs out easily then I can use the labels again.

Heather arrived last night for the weekend so, because she is here to look aftr Rosemary I was able to go to the hut at normal time this morning. This afternoon I went to Blackleach to record the birds and wild flowers with Janet. It had been nice this morning while I was at the hut but it has been showery this afternoon and it rained hard this evening. When I got home this afternoon I went in the greenhouse and took another 36 dahlia cuttings.

Didn't have time for any gardening jobs today.Heather has gone back home to Porthmadog this evening. I have told you before about the books I have written for the National Vegetable Society, "Getting started on the allotment", Getting started on the show bench" and "Getting started growing cut flowers. "Getting started on the allotment" has been very popular .All the stock of books has been sold and it is being re-printed which is good news and I am very pleased about it.The society emailed me to ask if I wanted any changes making. "Getting started growing cut flowers" is the same size of book and similar quality but this has not sold as well as they would have liked and they have a large stock of books left.Unless they can find any groups that will have the books, they will be confiscated which is very bad news. The only reason I can think of is that because it is a vegetable society members are more interested in a book about vegetables which is what the allotment book is mostly about than one about flowers.I was told that I could have as many books as I wanted. They are in boxes of 40 so I told them to send me a box and I have only had to pay for the carriage. So, I have a box of 40 books to try and sell so if any of you would like one please let me know. The cost of a book is £5.99 but you can have them for half price £3.00 but the postage is £2.70 making a total of £5.70. If you want to send me a cheque my address is 6, Oakwood Drive, Worsley,Manchester M28 3 HN. I just want as many books as possible to go to a good home where they will be made use of and not be confiscated. "Getting started growing cut flowers" My books on the N.V.S.stand at Chorley show

Derek has asked me to let you know that he's been unable to update his diary on here for a few days as he's been in hospital due to a rapid heartbeat. He says he's been given medication & feels a lot better but is under observation so may not be around for a little while yet.
