back to summer weather today and almost a full days gardening. Went on the allotment this morning. One job I did yesterday that I forgot to mention was that I tied up the chrysanths. I noticed a bit of white rust on some of them so I sprayed them with systhane. Because of this I sprayed the spray chrysanths on the allotment this morning as a precaution. I then planted the sweet corn, squashes and a tomtato. The cordon peas and sweet peas needed tying up so this had to be the next job. I told you last week that I had planted the main dahlia but the smaller bed still needs doing (just 20 odd plants). I took them and intended planting them but the bed needs weeding and I didn't have time. Stayed at home this afternoon . I dismantled the aluminium frames and put them away. Cleared the borders round the back lawn and weeded them .These borders have had frames on and been covered with boxes of plants so the soil was very compacted so I had to fork them over. I then put growmore on. These borders now need hoeing or raking to get them ready for planting.

Been at Blackleach all day today and I worked outside till 12.00 . Did some planting first. The wild flower seeds I sowed in nursery beds didn't germinate so I took some of my spare plants to plant in the border alongside the visitor centre where I normally transplant the wild flowers to. took some antirrhinums, statice, nicotiana and rudbeckia. The path alongside this border was rather weedy as were the flags in front of the centre so I gave them a spray of glyphosate. I then staked an apple tree that was bending over. Next job was to tidy the herb wheel . The herb wheel has 12 sections but mint has spread from its own section to two more so I am considering getting rid of it and planting something that isn't so invasive. This evening I started planting the border round our back lawn. Rosemary has hoed it while I was at Blackleach. She has gone over the rose beds with the claw this evening. I have got my plant stall at church tomorrow so I can't go to the hut but I called in for some compost on my way to Blackleach.

No gardening at all yesterday. You know about the plant stall ,we made about 50odd pounds . The rest of the day I was singing in a performance with my choir, and I sung a solo. So as you see my life isn't all gardening. Today I have had the afternoon and evening. Went on the allotment this afternoon .Put longer canes in the tomatoes and tied them up. Reduced the shallots to 3 per clump. Those I remove are used in salads. There are too many for us so I will give some to neighbours. You know that I have planted the main dahlia bed but I also plant some in a smaller bed. I weeded this and got it ready for planting. Also did some weeding between the rows of runner beans and sweet peas. I grow catch crops here and I have lettuces ready for planting. This evening I have done some more planting round the back lawn. I had 3 tomato plants left so I decided to pot them into 9 inch pots and grow them. I will find room for them somewhere. I also found one of my hanging baskets on the ground because the bracket had come away from the wall so I had to drill the wall and put new rawl plugs in to fix it up again.

A nice day and a full day and evening gardening. This morning I finished planting the border round the back lawn. Also transferred some parsley from cell trays into 3 inch pots. Went on the allotment this afternoon and evening. Planted the remaining 17 dahlias that I told you about yesterday. I had 10 fennel still in drinking cups. I didn't think it was worth potting them into bigger pots now so I planted them out. I hadn't a particular place for them but found room for 6 on the onion bed and the rest on the "others" bed. I also had 5 gladioli left and I planted these on the edge of the dahlia bed. Finished weeding the space between the rows of runner beans and sweet peas. Spent the rest of the time weeding one of the annual beds ready for planting.

I was at Blackleach this morning. I told you last week that mint was taking over the herb wheel so I decided to get rid of it and plant something less invasive so this was Billy's job today to cut it down and try to dig it out. went on the allotment this evening. Cut down the sprouting broccoli and pulled up the plants then carried on weeding the annual beds. One of them is ready for planting so I think I will plant this before weeding the rest.

Went to my son's house this morning to cut his privet hedges. This afternoon I made some more sowings of brassicas in 3 inch pots-sprouting broccoli, cauliflowers and 3 varieties of cabbage. Then went on the allotment intending to plant the annual bed that was ready for planting. The peas and sweet peas needed tying up again so I thought I had better do that first. Then I decided to weed the drums where the long carrots were growing because they were full of chickweed. Then I started planting and I went back this evening and managed to finish it. Rosemary came this evening to tie the dahlia labels on the top of the canes but she didn't finish them. Won't be able to go tomorrow evening because there is something on the telly at 8.00 that I want to watch.

Forgot to mention yesterday that I harvested the last of the overwintered lettuce and the first of the overwintered onions. The onions are not all as big as those I harvested but I will soon have to get them all up because I will need the ground for other things. Went to the allotment this afternoon and finished weeding the next annual bed and got it ready for planting. Couldn't take any plants though because Rosemary wanted the car so I had to walk down. I then started weeding the next bed.

Last night I typed out in detail all I had done to tell you but then I must have pressed a wrong key and lost it all and I hadn't time to type it again as it was bedtime. Just briefly I did some tidying up in the garden in the morning. In the afternoon and evening I went on the allotment . I finished weeding one annual bed and I had then got two ready for planting. I then almost finished planting one of them. Not much gardening time today just an hour or so this afternoon and I just did some more tidying up and a bit of weeding.

This afternoon I weeded the front garden between the plants I had planted. There were a lot of weed seedlings which had come from next door because the lady who lives there has lost interest in gardening and lets the weeds go to seed. Went on the allotment this evening and finished planting the bed I was doing last time I was there and got the next bed ready for planting. It's nice to be able to stay there till 10.00 now.

Watering takes a while this sunny weather. Alan from across the road who does my watering when I am away has gone away for 3 weeks so I have his watering to do . He has 13 hanging baskets and several tubs . They need doing twice a day this weather . I have also got to water for someone on the allotment this week who has a greenhouse full of tomatoes. When I need Alan to water for me I make sure he has water available but this person on the allotment has gone away leaving both water butts empty . I filled them both up with the hose pipe this morning. We are not allowed to water things with a hose pipe , only to fill water butts. I have been on the allotment all day and evening. I went with the allotment with the intention of just carrying on with weeding and planting but the peas and sweet peas needed tying up again then I decided to put the next set of collars on the leeks. I have still planted a full bed and almost weeded the next one. Not much gardening time tomorrow though except for school.

Another full day and evening on the allotment. Finished weeding the annual beds this morning and afternoon . The three main beds had been planted last week which left two smaller beds to do. When I had finished weeding the first of these beds I didn't know whether to start planting it but I decided to weed the other one while the weather was still dry . I then started planting this evening. If the weather stays dry I will finish planting them tomorrow.

I went on the allotment this morning and evening and I did finish planting the annuals. It started raining at 8.00 and I had to work in the rain for a few minutes to finish them. I intended to stay and do some weeding but I came home and went in the greenhouse and potted on some plants that needed it. I stayed at home in the afternoon and did some more tidying up in the garden. Weeded and tidied up the rockery.Treated some weeds on the lawns with verdone. Sprayed some other weeds with glyphosate and some with weedol. Didn't expect it to rain so I hope tonights rain didn't wash off the weedkiller. It wasn't heavy rain so it may be O.K.

Showery today. Been at Blackleach all day. The last two Tuesdays Billy has been digging out the mint from the herb wheel. I forked it over myself this morning and he seems to have done a good job. I then made a plan of the wheel and listed the herbs that are in and see what we need. I will go to the garden centre tomorrow and get some more to fill the gaps and plant them on Monday. Spent the evening in the greenhouse. Sowed some more lettuce seeds in cell trays,4 varieties . Also some dill, lavender, osteospermum and Echinacea in cell trays. Some of the French beans sown earlier have not grown so I sowed some more in 3 inch pots. I then started going through the plants in the greenhouse as I do every so often, tidying them up, trimming them if they need it and potting into bigger pots if they need it.

It was raining till about 3.00 so I spent the first part of the afternoon in the greenhouse carrying on with the pot plants as I was doing yesterday. When it stopped raining I went to the local garden centre and got 25 herbs for the herb wheel at Blackleach which I will plant on Monday. I have got some Rosemary and parsley that I have grown myself which I will also take. We have an alpine pan at home that could do with a few more alpines so I got three and planted them when I got home. I also planted my spare bedding plants in a trough and some small containers. Went in the greenhouse again this evening to do more work with the pot plants.
