Just had to show this Picture from the Midlands Dahlia Society Show. Using pom pom dahlia's. Yes it certainly attracted some attention at our show, well done Geoff !! One of our board members. Not only that he also took best vase of poms in show beating off all the big boys including Dave Gillam and co. Excellent result for only his 2nd year growing them. Obviously with a traditional vase of 5 poms and not the above masterpiece.

Another couple of weeks weather permitting, will be cutting the dahlia's down and lifting. Then it will be bring on 2014. Its looking like the dahlia lifting will be postponed looking at the weather forecast for wet wet wet.

DC how do rate westerton southside as i was thinking about getting it as it seems to look a good competitor to Winholme Diane. Also has anyone seen Askwith ian at a show as i saw both at halls very late in the season and i was wondering how both are.
thanks Sean

I think westerton southside will be good for multi vase classes but I don't think it will challange winholme. The raiser was saying it has not been as good this year in the warm weather.I don't grow it myself and don't htink it will be any better than the 5 small decs I have in at the moment, joan walker, leopold chloe, ryecroft brenda t,gateshead feastival and winholme.

Managed to get down to the allotment this afternoon for a couple of hours, removed all the canes and string, cut down the dahlia's on that bed and removed the stems. Still got all the other dahlia's I planted for seed to cut down yet. Then its down to favourable weather then, for digging them out.

I got mine lifted this morning....it was a beautiful morning down at the allotment....almost springlike!! The 6 I've saved are labelled and upside down in the polytunnel to drain.
