The first two of my tubers are growing- a Bryn and an Alf. Isn't it exciting watching them grow ?

Yes, it is an exciting time of year. Also frustrating if varieties you need decide not to grow.
I have some 'Willo's Violet' starting to shoot so I am a happy bunny this morning.

Glad you mentioned miniature decs dc, it's reminded me to look at the Halls catalogue to see what is available as I've lost my stock from last year. Any suggestions on reliable exhibition varieties that are rain-proof?

Show Day on Monday. Picking day tomorrow. I have a few more blooms to choose from this time. I may have some Nenekazi blooms at the right stage. Hot, dry weather though, so they may mature too fast.

I grew one plant of george marston without covers last year and they seemed to be weather proof mark.I am hoping to get plenty cuttings to give it a go this year and If I run out of room under my covers I won't think twice about growing them without. It is down as marston george in halls catalogue but it is £3.25 a plant. The others I grow are dikara superb, ryecroft jan and hillcrest divine.I know a lot of growers in the south grow minatures without covers so depending on where you are in the country most mini's might be ok outside (but not in the north east). If you fancy it and can't get hold of any depending on how my tubers do I may be able to sort you out with some.

Thanks dc. I remember 'George Marston' from our Welsh National Show in 2011 when Dave Gillam had an excellent vase of it in the three vase championship, wasn't sure then if it was a dec or ball but looks to be worth a try.
I don't have any covers at all at the moment so that is something I will need to see to if I can this year.
Halls seem a little pricey this year so I will ask for a list from Frank Taylor I think to compare. Although in previous years what you save on the price per plant has been eaten up by the high delivery charges.
On the plus side I have noticed today that 'Ruskin Andrea' is starting to shoot as is 'Cherwell Skylark' - I was in a state of shock when I saw those as Cherwells are notoriously slow to start into growth.

Just tried to log on to Station House dahlia site to order a few dahlias from them, The site is not available. I have had no luck in logging on to Station House Dahlia's today at all. Their loss, Halls gain. Ordered a few pom plants,, 3 Gurtla Twilight, 2 Noreen, 2 Rhonda and 2 Willo's Violet, I have not got a clue how to grow them though. ;D I was going to order Leopold Sophie, but Halls do not have that one, So i ordered 4 Leopold Chloe and 2 Barbarry Melody.

I have had no end of trouble with it recently. Can you phone in your order? I was in touch with Sion in early December, the site was ok then. You should be able to phone in an order.....I expect the number is in the catalogue.
