A solution to the sweet pea vase has been found.
Unfortunately Huston we have a problem, within seconds of having the 'vase' in front of him HH's hay fever kicked in. After that it was like musical vases, wherever he was they weren't. I hope that his body develops some kind of tolerance. If not then I guess it will end up no more sweet peas next year which would be a shame because the girls and I have really enjoyed it. Although Fairy Pink Wellies is not impressed that her's haven't flowered yet.

Your dahlia is lovely and some of the roses could be out too.
SP is this Zephirine Drouhin one which you grew from a cutting, or did you buy it? Mine are out now.

Have replies to make but today I am trying to plan out the rows and grid for my dahlias. Not doing very well already made my 1st help call to my Dad. Hope I don't annoy him. He said that I might find it a bit difficult getting the canes in because it has only been done over with the Rotervator. I said yes I was rather hoping that it would rain. Dad replied that you don't want it to rain yet because it will make it go all muddy and will end up squashing the soil down again. Oh. Thought I. Oh dear.

I don't know if this remedy works but if you can get local honey and have a spoonful everyday, because it has local to you pollens in it your body becomes used to it and it should reduced hay fever attacks. Btw, your sweetpeas are lovely

That's right Rosie and don't take any 'dirty' bits off the top because it is the top which is best for allergy sufferers.

No-one calls it manky honey Sweetpea. Where on earth did you hear this? I love it. I get the honey which is so local the bees come here to my shrubs. Very soon, I will be getting the rape honey which is nice, but it has to be taken off or it will go hard in the hives. There is a lot of rape next door, so the bees will be using it.

When I asked him my Dad told me that he put his dahlias 2 foot 3 apart which is 27 inches but lots of people plant 2 foot apart. So I had my 6 foot bamboo cane and I marked out 27 inches along with a bit extra at the end. I was sliding it along the edge of the greenhouse and was going to make a grid of 27 inch squares. Plant a plant in each square. Well that was my 'plan' which sort of made sense for me but the more I carried more clear as mud it all got.
Dad when he came here wanted to know what plants I was planting and where did I want them to go. (Not specifically a list of each plant in relation to each other but general) I don't know why I am like it and it is the same here, I worry about saying things the right way, doing it all wrong looking silly and basically killing everything. Things that sort of make sense to me when I think them but when I try and explain them, I get flustered.
I was very much my Dad's helper and I am really glad that he came otherwise they would have been done yet or they would all live in pots randomly positioned around the garden. When we went to the horticultural shop at the weekend they thought that I was crazy wanted 100 canes. Why that many??? You can buy them in singles, 10s, 50s and 100s. So obviously someone other than me buys them in bulk. Someone suggested doing it the same way as the Chrysanthemum with a net..... Nope came away with the 100 canes and with a husband who was just very relieved to get out of the shop.
I don't have a step by step of what happened because I was too busy concentrating.
The canes were very difficult to push into the soil and the majority had more than a tap with the back spade to push them in. Dad thinks that the soil itself is quite good but because it is the 1st time and hasn't been dug over before Rotavatoring it's not that easy. He also said that the soil was a bit on the dry side.
