Hi mattolo I will order from Hart canna for front display to mix with the dahlias. The t and m delphiniums are the new Zealand hybrids. I have ordered them as plugs let's see what happens. I love your garden. Superb ! Which varieties will you get? I have assaut, wyoming, australia, shenandoah and ehemannii (this one is a monster but superb!)all from Hart canna . I'm glad you're getting the new Zealand hybrids and not the pacific giant strain of delphs.

I will order for sure Durban . I like Cleopatra as well. My friend grows lots of cannas in her garden in Suffolk. I want a monster for the back of the dahlias. So will look at that.
Been looking at hart canna tonight. Also what one for a large 100litre terracotta pot I have I wonder if I could get 2 or 3 in it.

Don't look at the price of begonias (not a fan fortunately)

There begonias are hideously expensive. I grow a lot of begonias. Have ordered mostly from t and m this year to try. Fibrex have some good ones. Going to order ferns from them.
I think I will be naughty and order a couple of blackmore delphs. Or one of the selection packs.

Hi Mattolo - I'm a newbie on Garden Friends today and have been having a good look around the site to familiarise myself with navigating around it.
Loved your pics and the video. Noticed you'd gown some Hollyhocks. I'm going to try to grow some for the first time this year - have you any useful tips that you can pass on.

Noticed you'd gown some Hollyhocks. I'm going to try to grow some for the first time this year - have you any useful tips that you can pass on. Hollyhocks are fairly easy. Once you have them growing and flowering they'll be hard to get rid of.If you collected your own seed then just open the window and throw them at the garden..success!If you bought them then a less gung ho approach is called for.Direct sowing into the ground is possible .I'd wait until april or may and then watch out for slugs and snails. You could start them in pots earlier inside or in a greenhouse. The only real problem with them is rust on the leaves. They start to look ragged as the season goes on.I just ignore the rust .There isn't much you can do about it. I was given a couple of plants in the autumn of a dark red variety.I'll keep you posted on how mine do if you like.

Took a few pictures earlier. It seems my red flowered eucalyptus may have a good crop of flowers this year. After being cut down to the ground a few years ago ,it has slowly grown back to flowering size. P2240453 by smifter2012, on Flickr P2230446 by smifter2012, on Flickr

The "indoor" jasmine polyanthum I planted outside last summer seems to have survived so far and looks like it might put on a show. P2230448 by smifter2012, on Flickr

The view in February. The board and upturned drip tray beneath the bamboo are to prevent birds chucking all the compost/mulch onto the path. It should give the worms a chance to start dragging it down into the soil around the roots. P2240458 by smifter2012, on Flickr
