Made a start on replanting the Irises. Lot of them around and they all need splitting and refreshing.

I'm seeing more slugs on the balcony this year than I think I ever have during the 20 odd years we've lived here! Strangely enough I haven't seen any snails this year 😂

Mowed the lawn this morning for the first time in just over a month, I've been doing 'no mow May' to let wildflowers grow but I think the lawn has been so waterlogged recently that even the weeds have given up - only had a couple of clumps of daisies & buttercups. Looks a bit tidier now but still lots to do.

You did very well, SueA to get the grass cut, especially after a month without cutting it! The grass outside our balcony hasn't been cut in about 3 weeks and it's nearly knee high now! It's normally cut every 2 weeks. I only spent half an hour on the balcony yesterday potting up 6 Fuchsia cuttings and taking a few photos.

More Iris fettling. Lots of spare rhizomes, which may or may not be given to other folks along the lane. Otherwise, watering, weeding and wandering.

weeded the veg plot between the onions and cabbages. Resowed parsnips as only 1 came up despite sowing about 50/100 and sowed carrots as I had forgotten to do them last month. But as I am in East Yorks it wont be too late for them.
Also weeded a small bed in front of the rockery. Not sure what I will plant in it. Lots of choices.

My local council have done 'no mow May' this year, although that's come after no mow every month this year until now, so the grass verges along the roads look so untidy and waist high in places! I'm pretty much cutting my lawn every week at present. Whilst it's green I don't really want to cut it too short and end up with something looking like a cricket pitch if we have a dry spell.
Today I've planted out my 3rd and final row of pea's into the garden, and then re-seeded 2 rows of carrots for the 2nd time. The first lot of seed largely failed, the second sewing appeared to be doing a bit better, but then disappeared. Definitely not the birds though as had a net over them. Having weeded it today before resewing in 2 rows I basically had 2 or 3 carrots that were actually growing. I've got some lettuce to plant out too, but going to leave them until this evening or once evening in the week when it's a bit cooler and the sun's off the garden.

geumgrower are these bearded irises? How often do you need to split them up and refresh them?

Dwarf Bearded Iris. I do them as and when they need it, say when the rhizomes are growing over the top of each other, or when they are too close together. Powis Castle seem to dig up and do their Tall Dwarf bearded ones every year, but their soil is probably richer than mine. I throw away the oldest and most damaged of the rhizomes. One of them, bought as The Bride, but not correct, is over 40 years old now.It is a lovely buttercup yellow and it spreads like mad.
