Yesterday I didn't do anything other than watering for the half hour I was on the balcony.

cleared the front and side path of weeds and swept, planted out beans at long last moved bags of gravel and compost to the back garden, planted up some containers. I now only have 25 days to open gardens and 3 of them I'm away, looks like I'm going to be very busy

Best of luck, grindle, with your preparations for the opening of your garden to the public! I couldn't do anything on the balcony yesterday with the cold wind and intermittent showers. The council gardeners cut the grass and lots of of grass cuttings fly in the balcony so I waited till they had finished and gone away before going out to sweep them away. When I went out onto the balcony I found that we had had a shower and the grass cuttings were wet and stuck to the balcony floor! So I will have to do the job today - before the forecast showers arrive again and I have to put it of! f for another day

thanks balc2 spent most of the day re graveling the gaps in the paving, I first put weedkiller down before the gravel in the hope it will keep tidy, I don't have to worry about pets or plants in that area so was happy to use it, cut the grass, re hung the strawberry troughs on the wall, the area is now looking much better, just have a small area to finish this morning

Planted up a couple more hanging baskets with various bedding type plants & 6 little pots with red pelargoniums. Weeded one of the borders at the far end of the garden & pulled out & cut back some of the overgrown plants around the pond so that I could get down to the arbour. Repotted the Koko Loko rose I bought earlier in the year now that it's developed a decent root system.

I only watered some plants in the bedroom windows & sprayed the plants in the kitchen with Neem oil to get rid of mealy bugs.

I could only spend about 30 mins on the balcony this afternoon as a very strong, cool wind made it very difficult to do anything! I initially went out to check if any plants needed watering - most did! Before I started on the watering I guided some of the Morning Glory seedlings, that were starting to wrap themselves around other plants, through the holes in the chicken wire so that they can make a start on climbing up the balcony railing & from there to the strings that will guide them up to the ceiling of the balcony. They are self-sown seedlings that came from the seeds on last year's plants. I didn't get any new seeds this year. The majority will no doubt turn out to be deep purple with white throats! No matter, I'm not sticking to a colour scheme for the balcony but by luck the Petunias have turned out to be a very dark purple so the two species will share similar colouring!

Had hoped to finish off the planting out but our garden is so desperately dry. Decided it would probably traumatise all our poor plants so will hold off for a few more days in the hope that we might get some rain. Spent yesterday just thoroughly watering everywhere ..all our 7 water butts are empty now!!

I was out today, so all I did was cover the Tayberries on the shed welll when I saw a blackbird sitting on the water butt to make it easy for him to punch off the berries. These are nicer than Raspberries and are not as ‘pippy’ to eat, but the prickly stems are a real bother as I am on blood thinners. The crop is really good and if I can win with the bird competition, I will keep it, otherwise, it will go back to White House Farm. It now has a fleece covering.

Change of plan yesterday as I decided to crack on and finish all the planting out. We were forecast to have a bit of rain last night ..but as expected it didn't happen. Fortunately I had watered everything anyway.
