I only put a few of the plants back in their original places after moving them to get at other plants that needed their plates and saucers emptying of the rain water from Saturday morning's thunderstorm. As we were forecast possible thunderstorms I didn't put the saucers back under the pots on the balcony railing, just as I didn't because we had heavy rain around 1pm, even though it didn't last long!

sorting out pots of snowdrops ready for new growth next year and ready for the sales table. Quite a few had maggots in them and would not be viable.

Way to reduce it in the garden is to hoe over the tops of the bulbs when the leaves have died down. It lays its eggs in the hole where the leaves have been, so no hole, no lay.

Carried on hacking through the plants & weeds around the back of the pond, filled the council green waste bin now, luckily they empty it tomorrow! 😊

About 15 years ago I was working on the allotment of a friend of mine from church and it occurred to me to take my pots of spent Amaryills bulbs down there and plant them out during the summer. I dug them up to take back home in October. I noticed some of them had tiny holes near the base plate and were looking worse than the others, so I just threw them away. That was probably the best thing to do as it saved the healthy ones from getting infected in following years.
I didn't know about Narcissus fly back then & it was a few years before I found out. Though I continued taking the bulbs down several more years I never planted them in the soil. I never had the problem again as they stayed in their pots on the shelving I made up for them.

I knew what the grubs were but couldn't bring their name to mind when I posted. [Merodon equestris] I have watched the flies in the garden so not surprised by their presence.
I will be going through the pots of narcissus later.

I have no idea what the flies look like but I did plant them where my friend had been growing Daffodils, Tulips & Gladioli as cut flowers for several years. I hadn't even heard of Narcissi Fly back then - nor for a few years afterwards either! When someone on a gardening forum I used to post on many years ago suggested they might be the cause I looked them up on the internet & from the description of them it seemed that that person was right. But I've never had the problem ever again.

I've just read about them on Wikipedia Narcissus Fly & might now be able to id them in the future should I ever come across the again! It says they fly low & stop on the ground frequently so that would be the reason they never found my pots of bulbs again. I made up some shelving to keep them of the ground & all very close together, making it much easier for me to attend to their needs.

Mainly staking and tidying up plants that took a brutal battering from the very heavy but much needed rainfall.
