Apart from watering the tomato plants & winding them around their strings & removing the side shoots for the first time I did nothing else on the balcony. I did water the Dragon trees in the bedroom window.

With the forecast for rain all morning and the start of the afternoon I probably won't be going out on the balcony today.
With the wind coming from the SW the rain will enter the balcony as that is the direction the balcony faces.

Spent the day, so far, removing a very large Philadelphus. It has never flowered even though it has been properly pruned by us. Big job as it is massive, was that is. The last little bit of the stump is proving very stubborn. The root goes under the fence in one direction and into a metal post in the other. Thinking cap on.

Only watering a few pots where the plants seemed to be wilting a little under the constant westerly wind we had all day yesterday. I also moved my Fuchsia standard further inside the balcony to protect it a little more from the wind.

Dead-headed the roses again, hacked a path down to the arbour where the pond & bog plants have gone wild & tied in toms, cucumbers & sweet peas & watered the hanging baskets.

Nothing of note except I had to take a plant back for a refund. I'd bought a Buddleia alternifolia 2 months ago and not given the shape much thought other than it had been badly pruned to fit on the staging in the GC. However buds formed and it was clearly the davidii type. Took it back and they were very reluctant to change it. The manager actually said but it is a buddleia. I asked if he'd accept a ford focus instead of a ford escort? He said he didn't get my point. Well they are both fords! I got a refund.

I could have saved myself the watering yesterday evening as we had a thunder storm this morning at 4:45am! Later in the morning I had to go out on the balcony & empty all the saucers under the pots on the balcony railings. The rain had filled almost every saucer to overflowing! I'll put them back under the pots tomorrow.

I cut the lawn this morning to get it done before the rain came.
