Thanks balc2 , if and when ( fingers tightly crossed) I get any blooms I will definitely post a pic. They were from a neighbours garden and we both recognised it being in the Lavatera family, only I would like to know a bit more as they are not the same as what we already have in our garden.

Picked the last of my pea's yesterday, and pulled up the plants along with some lettuce that had bolted. This morning I was out early and cut the lawn before it gets too hot. Will probably be inside now until the sun is off the garden this evening so I can water.

I didn't even put a foot on the balcony on Saturday & today I only spent 30 mins watering the pots on the balcony in preparation for the expected heat today. About 9.30pm I checked to see if the hanging baskets could do with watering again but all but one are fine. I will water them all again tomorrow so they can get through the scorching day (32-33C forecast!) without drying out. Even so with that sort of heat I may well water at least the hanging baskets & the Petunias for a 2nd time.

We managed to trim the boundary hedging that runs the full lenght of our property on the west side this morning before the heat got too much. During the afternoon I sorted and cleaned some of the seeds that I've gathered so far.

I've been clearing the bottom of my garden in readiness for decking to be put there - it was once a nice little area but I haven't been able to look after it recently and it's got into a mess, and I'm hoping it will be easier for me to look after when it has been decked.
The walls need some attention but that will have to wait.
Before the work starts I'll have to move the cold frames, and Bella will have to find somewhere else to sleep for a while.

I watered the hanging baskets and a few other pots but forgot to water the tomatoes! You can imagine what happened during the tremendous heat of the afternoon - yes, they wilted on me! I went out on the balcony around 3 or 4pm to check on the baskets and saw the poor tomatoes hanging their heads 😱ðŸ˜I gave them a little water while I did the baskets. When I finished doing the petunias I then gave the tomatoes a good soaking. I hope the fruit won't be damaged as when you water them after they have wilted the water can make the skins crack. I hope that doesn't happen as the fruit is still quite small.

Like other days I watered all the pots, troughs and baskets and soaked the tomatoes again. They were starting to dry out so I gave them lots of water. I also did a little deadheading of the petunias and morning glories. The petunias will need a bit of cutting back very soon. The trailing lobelias the same. I made a start yesterday but with the clothes dryer and all the pots on the balcony floor I couldn't do much. Today I will be feeding the plants.

I have made a start at clearing out and cleaning the area I call my 'nursery area'... during Summer it's my grand name for my dumping ground It's home to my greenhouse , potting bench ( paving slabs on top of bricks) and two big lean to cold frames and one ground level one + one open compost bin. It's surprising how mess ( gardening) suddenly accumulates!! Started on the greenhouse but as it's in an unforgiving hot spot area I had to give up by lunchtime and concentrate on the surrounding area . Started to sieve saved compost that was used in germinating seeds, this is used to store dormant tender plants undercover during the Winter. Once again it proved too hot to complete that task too so will continue all the jobs this morning.
