no gardening, just painting at the front, the guy came round that is going to do the work at the front, hopefully in about 3 weeks, which will mean digging out all the plants that will be in the way, I'm not sure I will be able to save all the lavenders, I don't think they transplant well

Hope you can save some of the lavenders grindle I think they can be a bit temperamental if you move them & tend to curl up & die especially if they're a bit old & on the woody side. All I did was water in the greenhouse/mini greenhouse & shed & prop up pots & tie back roses which were blowing around in the wind - came in with scratches all over my wrists & looking like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards!

Too windy to do much outside today, so all I've done is cut back a clematis, and picked up a few leaves that have come off the plum tree and were blowing across the garden.

started with good intentions, got the paint out, chatted to my neighbours, then decided it was too windy so really had a lazy day, just a bit of watering here too. SueA I've decided to leave the lavenders be for the minute, they're just coming into bud, so I will wait until I get a definate date, at least I can enjoy them first, then I will get new ones when all the work is done, tbh they are getting past it now anyway

I think you would have ended up with more paint on you than on the fence in that wind grindle! All I did was water everything again , feed the wildlife & try to tie up the roses which were blowing everywhere but gave up as it was blowing a gale still.

I brought my 2 Clematis which are tied into tall bamboo poles into the kitchen because I got sick of picking them up in this gale. My plants are all waiting for a garden and it is not good to keep them in pots for years. Another observation is that the only shrub bought cheaply from Tesco is not performing well. It is a rhododendron with no name. It looked beautiful when new, but the next season grew more leaves where flowers were expected. This year, the new growth shows leaf buds and not flowers again. I will be forced to throw it out as I don’t have the space. There is a lesson here, which I knew, but thought this was a bargain.
My Malus Evereste is caught in lockdown as it was in a halfway house before coming to me. I chose the exact tree on FaceTime, from a row at a nursery, and my son’s friend took it to his house. It is still there, and probably safer than here with me.

grindle do you like painting or is the sense of satisfaction good enough to keep you going? It is a good job done and you have my admiration.

Nothing in the garden other than watering everything again, will have to sort the roses etc. out now that the wind seems to have dropped, lots of weeding to do & I will have to mow & edge the lawn soon, I've left it for 'no mow May' to see how many wildflowers grow on it if left alone, mainly daisies & buttercups which look very pretty but I get those even if I do mow, I don't like sterile lawns.

Ha ha SueA. My son now has his first garden, which is an old English cottage garden. He watched Chelsea and sent a text every time he saw fields of cow parsley (with a swear word) because he is mowing it down. His partner, however, does not believe in ridding the lawn of moss so that the birds can use it for nesting. He is loving having a garden and sends pics, each with a bottle of wine and his glasses set up in the sun on their tiny outdoor table from the balcony in the Aberdeen flat.

I've made the most of the lovely weather here today. I planted my runner & French beans out this morning, then weeded the rest of the vegetable patch. I then did a bit of weeding on the flower beds before lunch. This afternoon I've planted up a few dahlia's into large pots, lifted, split and re-planted some auricula's that I had growing in a trough, and then planted another trough with some radish seed. It'll be watering as usual this evening once the sun goes off the garden.

It is a good job done and you have my admiration. thanks you Cherry it's more a case of finding jobs that need doing to stop getting bored while in lockdown, at least next year I won't have to worry gave the garden a good water, washed the path down, cut the grass, had to leave the edging for today as it got too hot, so just sat with a cuppa and watched the world go by

I did the flower count for the 'no mow May' Plantlife project & put the results on & apparently the nectar score for my lawn is rubbish & would only support 7 honey bees Cherry - so I mowed it & edged it! Started off with edging shears but gave up as they were a bit blunt & used my hands instead to rip the edges & weed at the same time. I'm with your son's partner though & like to leave the moss for the birds except when I scarify once or twice a year & use the moss in my Christmas wreath etc. I did see 3 bees visiting the lawn flowers while I was doing the count though & there were dozens elsewhere in the borders yesterday making the best of the sunshine now the wind has dropped. Watered everything again in the evening.
