Lack of patience Rob Some varieties take a lot longer than others to start sprouting...you say you have had some sprouting?...at least you know you are doing the right thing. I have heard of growers, in desperation, dip their tubers in boiling water to "encourage" them.......not something I would do ......its just a waiting game for you both.

Could be they are just slow starters Rob. I give mine a little help by spraying the crown with room temperature water, just to soften the surface enough for the eyes to break.

I've never heard of that ! 2 of my tubers have just started but the others there's nothing and they were all potted up the same time.

A few of my tubers that were nice and big and looked ideal for producing cutting material haven't shown anything yet. Quite a few of my other tubers, from different varieties, have produced growth but from all areas apart from the crown, making it difficult to take cuttings. Two of them sent up shoots through the main stem only. It's a strange year so far.

We all had those problems here last spring. Tubers sprouted over a period of 3 months or more.

I was going to ask why so many of my tubers haven't so far shown any sign of growth! If you're having the same problems, I'll have to take Lou's advice and be patient. I have more tubers on order, too. There won't be space in the propagators for them.

If not, this may be the problem....they will need a bit of moisture to get going this early in the season....

Yes, they're in pots and I do water them. I looked again this afternoon, and three now have little shoots.

I checked my dahlias again yesterday, and there are little shoots on seven out of the nine. My Parker's order has arrived, so I'll be busy potting up more dahlias today.

Cromer Spring Show has been cancelled because nobody can offer daffodils, tulips or hyacinths and the hellebores have been blown flat. It has been the coldest spring for 50 years.
