When I visited the garden centre on friday I bought the following dahlias Sir Alf Ramsey Seattle Sylvia Chocolate and Candy Purple Pearl Golden Sceptre Purple Gem Bridgeview Aloha My Love x 3 Even if I don't want to take any cuttings should I still pot them up now or wait a couple of weeks? You could pot them up now if you have enough room in the greenhouses, for earlier flowers, or plant them out about 3 weeks before the last frosts for your area are finished. They should be through then, after the frosts have finished.

I grew golden sceptre and Sylvia last year from the garden centre. I only chose Sylvia as that was the name of my nan so I thought I would grow it and it was fab had lots of flowers and really strong stems. I even entered it in a show and it wasnt disgraced Was by far the best of the ones fromt he garden centre

Thanks for that advice. I shan't be able to do bottom heat, but I will be starting them off indoors. I don't really want to see them in bloom before end July. I always think of them as late flowers. Thanks for the recommendation of the 'giraffe' search word. I shall try this. Sorry, I'm not mentioning your names in all of this, I still haven't worked out much about usiing the site! I know Lou78, Esther and Geranium were the 'helpers'. Ah, now ive spotted the Topic Summary further down this page...that helps!

that's a nice one, I got Willie Willie but it doesn't look as nice as that. I also got After Eight, but I'm not sure it's going to be the right one, the leaves are more green than dark

Only available from America at the moment. Yes but ive seen other Star forms dont think i have much room for more though . In my experience when people say they dont know what they are doing they then go on to surprise themselves and realise how much they know Think of the dahlia as an oversized marigold and youre 1/2 way there. Have a gr8 growing season come win lose or draw! Regards, Paul
