I have been a very energetic and enthusiastic gardener in the past having not only kept an allotment plus my back garden in good stead but also my neighbours garden as well. Now due to my back problem which is not likely to get any better (nuff said about that!) I just have to do what I can, when I can to keep my back garden looking tidy at least. The council provides a service called "Mow and Grow" although where the Grow comes in is rather baffling. So far they have chopped my lovely rose bush down to the ground, continually pulled out my mint that WAS growing in a pot, chopped off half the tap on one of my water butts and destroyed my bird bath!!..But at least they have kept the grass cut... On a lighter note...I have a rhubarb crown that continues against all odds to grow every year, strawberry plants in my little planter, 3 blueberry bushes in very large pots and raspberry canes that are really growing quite wild (as is their wont)This year I managed to put 2 tomato plants in my greenhouse which are bearing some lovely toms to boot. I shall post some pics when I find out how to!

When I saw these pics I thought it was vandalism. It is actually. When the council gardeners came to the school where I did the gardening, we never saw the Choisya flower as it was pruned in the spring. They were bad, but not as bad as the ones working your back garden Jasmin. I think you should report their lack of ability to the person in charge of 'Mow and Grow' at your council office. I could do better with a strimmer than that.

I have done that Cherry. Reported it immediately and have had a year of debating with them (council) when they finally said I have to take it up with "Mow & Grow"! Thankfully I had contacted them at the same time and was told that they were sending someone to have a look the next morning.. methinks..good they will see it straight off, but next morning phone call to say they were not coming and to take it up with the council!! Fact is it may not be an expensive bird bath but all in all this is very shoddy work and I am determined they are not going to hear the last of it until I get some compensation however small, in recognition of their lack of training their employees.

Good for you Jasmin! I would think that the council is ultimately responsible as they were the people who subcontracted the work to Mow and Grow. You have pots and your productive greenhouse and obviously like to see your garden looking good. They need a reminder.

I agree there Cherry. I did think that the council should ultimately be responsible tbh but "M&W" is going to get the full blast of my fury until something is done.
Was out in my garden this afternoon as the weather was really good..not too hot and a nice cool breeze too. Did intend to do some more light weeding but ended up re-sitting my water butt. When my neighbour moved in next door her brother brought round a small digger..although how on earth they managed to get it through the hallway and up and down the steps I don't know!! They removed a lot of the top soil as there was masses of ground elder which we.. or perhaps I should say "I" had been plagued with for years. Then laid a lining and brought in more soil... but in so doing it disturbed the soil round my water butt which then began to sink and tip over. Had to lift and shift a large concrete slab that the butt sits on which was some doing.. guess tomorrow I shall be feeling the effects of that! Very pleased with my efforts.

It's nice to get help.but that kind of help? I'm not so sure. As I said to the man at the council.."beggars can't be choosers" to which he replied in haste.."We do offer a good service" Who's he trying to kid? I thought. and it's not as if it's free either! We pay between £80 - £100 a year according to our means.

What kind of people do they have doing that work, Jasmin? They're not doing Community Service, are they? I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Though that's still not an excuse for wrecking peoples' property.

No, not them but apparently on some sort of work ethics scheme... in other words paid peanuts.

Hello Jasmin. I use tiny pic to upload my pictures, its easy, let me know if you need a hand with it. I would be up in arms if the council did that to my property, like Cherry said, it's a kin to vandalism.
