How strange, @hywel. Did you plant them deeply? Apparently, that's what they prefer. Carol Klein says she can't keep hers, either - so you're in good company. Mine seem OK - My I. 'George' is almost in bloom. I'm very fond of the little Irises. I'm looking forward to seeing my new ones 'Sheila Ann Germany' and the other ones I planted in the flood walls - 'Lady Beatrix Stanley'.

I didn't realise they liked to be planted deeply. I thought initially of keeping my present ones in the pot, and hope they come back next year ... but now I may put them deeply in the ground.

I took a photo of my two little snowdrops (and Bella's paw - good job she didn't sit on them !) I have several clumps of them coming up now, but the flowers are not open yet ...
and here's my one corm of Cyclamen coum, which I love but have never been able to grow. I hope this one will survive !

My Iris 'George' are flowering and Iris 'Katherine Hodgkin' are in bud. I also noticed that the Anemone blanda are showing green leaves too.

I don't think that is necessarily bad steve and @hywel because you know you are going to grow these cuttings and they are not wasted. I took some seeds when I was at Houghton Hall Art Exhibition and they are growing. My daughter was ashamed of me. That Iris is perfect Geranium. I have seen Brenda come out of a garden centre a time or two with a few cuttings.

She'll get arrested, Tel! You'll have to bail her out. Make sure you do, won't you! @hywel - why don't you plant the Cyclamen in the ground? They seed themselves and increase, well, they do in my garden. I thought it was time my Prunus mume 'Ben Chidori' flowered. (I love that long name - it rolls off the tongue! ) So I went to look, and it is! It's normally blooming at the same time as my Hamamelis...'Arnold Promise' is fully out, the red one is almost there. I hope I didn't post the photo twice?

No-one would complain if that photo went on twice Geranium. What a beautiful Prunus. The Hamamelis looks a treat. It must smell lovely.

I've tried them in the ground Geranium but they always die away. The C. hederifolium do well. They spread everywhere, but the C. coum don't ... I can't understand why. Do you know if they require different conditions to hederifolium ??

I have the same problem with C.coum Hywel, I wondered whether it is because my garden soil is alkaline and perhaps they prefer acid soil.

I don't think they tolerate wet and cold as well as the others @hywel

Thanks - yes, I'm sure Lou78W has the key. They prefer to have dry feet, @hywel. Mine are planted under the ash tree between its roots amongst the snowdrops. They seem very happy there! My little Prunus is just so pretty. I fell for it on a trip to our local Nursery some years ago, and it's a joy. Strangely, I can't detect scent from the Hamamelis! Maybe if I were able to get closer to it...

Thank you Geranium. I'll keep them in a pot, and I'll put it in a shelter where they won't get too wet. In the old garden I had lots of big shrubs where I could have planted them (it was a much bigger garden) but here there aren't any.
