I thought that was you,no won't be going to wisley or midlands, can't get the time off work been lucky to get the time off for harrogate this year extermely busy at work.I am sure I will bump into you at harrogate.Having a go with valentine and challenger this year if they work out might get an entry in the individual. Was talking to Phil the other night and he said he is quietly confident this year.

Yes it is myself, all the very best with your showing and yes I will be at Harrogate looking after the judging. I do not think I will have a lot of bloom by Harrogate but we will see.

Staged some entries at my local show yesterday, not just dahlias but veg, chrysanths and a display also. Managed to win the chrysanths with 'Pearl Enbee Wedding', second with exhibition shallots and the display class and third with peas and miniature decs. Very high standard of entries this year especially the dahlia section where we had nine staged exhibits in the championship. More local people entered the veg classes this year which is always good to see, especially when they have not shown before and they get among the cards. Entries overall were up by 100 on last year so hopefully the future looks rosy. No photos unfortunately as in the mad scramble to get everything ready I forgot to put it on charge. Well Done in your show markb. Which miniature dec varieties did you enter? We have Chrysanthemum classes in our local show but in the last few years there have not been any entries which seems sad. Good to read that there are more entries at the show, if it is anything like ours - competition is quite fierce. Pity about the photos, be good to see them next year.
The miniature decs were 'George Marston'. The chrysanths have been a bonus this year as they are at least two weeks earlier than I normally get them. Our dahlia season is early this year because of the hot weather which is probably why there were so many entries.

Think they are going to be very late for me but then that is my fault for planting them late. I like the dark coloured dahlias.

Congrats in order for all the dahlia growers here. Just managed to go through this thread and some all of the blooms look marvellous. Some dedication on display there. Again, well done all.

All cut now for Southport. May get some decent miniatures. The rest will probably look good on the NDS stand Seriously, the last few days they couldn't have got any wetter if you'd stood over them and blasted them with the hose pipe. A lot survived that, but the wind was another matter. Quite a few damaged blowing into each other, even the ones under covers. Never mind, one way or another, should get at least 20 vases.

Does anyone grow Gillwood Violet? It is a sport of Willo's Violet and want to see some 'real' photos of it.

Hello, I've been reading the page for a while so thought I would join in! So hello everybody. I grow a few dahlias just for the local shows but hope to grow more when I've gained some more experience. I was also wondering if anyone had any experience of Rossendale Lewis I've grown it for the first time this year and the plants look terrible like a virus! but I've heard that's the way it is and the flowers will end up canny? Thankyou

I have not grown it, but I do not like the sound of your plants condition, but I am sure you will get some advice from one of our dahlia growers on here.

Thankyou Welcome to the forum. I think all of us who have grown 'Rossendale Lewis' have had the same reaction as the plants do look terrible when in growth. The flowers, however, are good but not as good, in my opinion, as the likes of 'Suzanne Marston', 'George Marston' and 'Blyton Golden Girl'.
