Hi CMM My great friend Donald Kershaw raised Lewis (named after his grandson Lewis not Rossendale Hehe) I had the privilege of growing Lewis pre release, the season of 2008 I used it in my National winning entry in the individual championship it scored a very healthy 24 points. Rossendale Lewis leaves looks sometimes a little suspect the blooms will be fine, give the plants some Epsom salts 2-3teaspoons per 2gal watering can water on to 8-10 plants it would not hurt to also at this time of the season to put in some seaweed extract and a little tomato feed. Lewis has the best form if the centres hold for you often it is best to select side buds and lightly disbud. It also won the jets cot trophy for the best seedling when shown in 2008. Good luck and good fortune and welcome aboard CMM.
ps Have you decided what you would like to grow if it is for the garden then the smaller varieties will give a better return and are more weather proof as is Lewis so varieties like Western Pirate (mini cactus) Barbarry Kestral (mini ball) dark pink, Ryecroft Zoe (small semicactus) Red, Mary's Jomanda (mini ball) Magenta and most ponpoms etc these varieties would also do well on the show bench happy growing hope the bug bites.

Hi Mark, Yes Golden girl great form from the front but tends to be a little flatter than most, Suzzane is excellent but be warned it is big so grow everything up and more. Marston George is great. Lewis if grown to its potential and with centres will compete with anything. By the way when is the Welsh National?

You're right about Suzanne, Ian, growing mine on a three-stop this year. They've been ok so far but with all the rain we've had now I can see them pushing for disqualification.
The Welsh National is on Bank Holiday Monday with staging from 10pm on Sunday night. Schedule available from:

I am sure that I read somewhere here about dirty blooms and dirty dogs at Crufts. I agreed with the point but didn't ask the obvious question: So what is best to use to clean up those specs or tiny insects?

If you are showing blooms the a good spraying programme will deal with most aphids etc but as the blooms are being staged each bloom is inspected and any spots(dirt) can be removed with a cotton bud and a little water (spit) Oooo Hehe

My first local show, is normally the last weekend in August, found out they have brought it forward to tomorrow, I have nothing really worth taking, but I have to return a trophy so I will take what blooms I can find.
