Yesterday I typed out an update, explaining some bits about Dad & me re. dahlias and then I managed to loose it all. Not a happy bunny but there you go. Done now.
Ok, don't know if I can explain everything that I tried last night. It all based around the tuber / cutting / plant updates etc.
I was chuffed to bits when I managed to dig out most of my dahlias in more or less 1 piece (ok, enough to give them a chance of being growable ). I wanted to learn how to take cuttings, so I wanted to keep back some tubers myself. My favourites & important ones went to Dad. So Eastwood Moonlight, Downham Royal and Weston Pirate because that is my favourite. Gave Dad my Red Balloon, he had 2 plants and he gave me one, so it made sense for him to have that tuber and for him to have my Staleen because it isn't compatible with my garden - size wise. erm when my Ruskin Myra and my Brenda T arrived, it didn't put them straight away in the greenhouse. When I got organised, I gave Dad my Ruskin Myra because I wanted it with Ryecroft Zoe but I kept back the Brenda T which I picked because it looks a nice colour (and because it does well in shows) and it seemed a bit pointless to pay the postage for a single plant (and I didn't want 2 Myra's because I won't know if I like it until I've grown it.) So there was some kind of logic to my madness. Dad didn't think that either would grow but I thought they might (I was right ) I later gave him my Weston Miss but nah it's  but that's not a problem as it wasn't one of my favourites.
In return for all those tubers (except Staleen) I've asked for a plant back. Plenty fair swap for me.
Dad had all the  chicken wing bones and if can work some magic, I'll get a plant of Candy Jayne (but still highly unlikely), a Clearview Jenny - if any cuttings take and if he can, get enough of Clearview Audrey, I'll get one of those.
Dad has also given me a few plants that I haven't grown before, including Trooper Dan, a baby Sir Alf Ramsey pot tuber and a Weston Coursair. Can't remember if there are any more off of the top of me head.
So from now, all my updates anything from my Dad = with the exception of the all of which are still  .
There is a logic behind my madness... 'onest guv'nah.
So hopefully this update this update will makes sense...

Daddy I'm cold...
Who'd have thought that Pirate could have so much fun at the dahlia sales? She certainly wasn't moaning, she won 2 prizes in the raffle. 1 box of Ferrero Rocher anyone? And she's been wearing her slipper socks with a big grin on her face.
n.b. Lots of nice photos of pirate & fairy together but you can see their faces and I try to avoid that.

sweetpea & Tel, you are both very kind. Not intending on being slushy but you both have helped me so very much, I really value your friendships.
I've down the greenhouse doing a photo shoot of what I have and I've realised that I've mucked up. Dad has bought Lismore Moonlight at the dahlia sale, so I wouldn't be getting one from him.
Hay hoe, if it is meant to be it will happen. Doesn't look like it was supposed to. Sure if the tubers make the winter, he'll be able to give me a plant next year. It's no big wizz*, just me being a bit of a derr brain.
*I hope that expression has no vulgar connotations, in other parts of the country but it's totally innocent round here.
p.s.Tel, not so sure on the 'informative' bit.

Must confess I did a quick search and your photo is much better, delicate looking. I've been looking back at my last years pictures of Happy Halloween which started off really wishy washy and then suddenly turned 'in your face' pumpkin bright orange.
In my totally uneducated eyes, it petals have more or a slight point to them than a lot of the decs that I've seen, I've only grown, balls,, poms and semi/cactus, so I'm certainly not the font of all knowledge there.
My Dad has a huge thing about Mary's Jomanda and Jomanda. He is adamant that they are wrongly classified as balls. As a former NDS judge, it really frustrates him. When he explains it to me and when he has discussed it with high ranking members of NDS, they have agreed with him.
If it were me, what I would like to do would be to have the agreed classification definitions and lots of black and white pictures of blooms of different varieties including close ups to make it easier to identify a dec petals and ball petals or even notice differences between ball / pom / dec. Would be very interesting to discover the results.
With the Jomandas it isn't clear cut, The American Dahlia Society has Mary's Jomanda USA form classification= Ball.
and Jomanda - USA form classification = Formal Dec
I've waffled on and gone off on tangent Sweetpea, sorry for going on a bit. I do like that slight point of the petals.
