Never was a great fan of these chicken legs. Mainly American I think. Still as long as they work that's the main thing. Personally I prefer to work from pot tubers.

The moon was unusual a couple of nights ago. I could see 'the man in the moon' and this is the first time I have seen it.

Look what came home with me today:
Looks especially tiny in the tray with his brothers and sisters:
No I am not planning on potting it up, I want it to have as long as possible to grow rather than fuss around spoiling the roots. Tel, Candy Jayne tuber has suddenly had more growth since the cutting was taken. The Clearview Edie tuber didn't take but there is now more but it goes back to that question, do you try another late cutting are leave well enough and go for the pot tuber instead...
Apparently there is a Clearview Jenny somewhere, it is just a question of finding it... it's a bit of a jungle out there in Dad's greenhouse. Ruskin Myra is going to need a search party to discover it to...

Mornin' All.
Bit frustrating waking up at this time but I guess that's what happens when I go to bed early. Still I can carry on with my update. After seeing my Dad's rotavated beds ready for planting, HH wanted to know if mine were nearly ready for planting.
No.
When we got home my Mr Superman went round with the weedkiller. Maybe I'll be ready some time next year...?

The other thing I will need to do is relay my path. The thought of trying to lift each slab isn't one I can manage now. I've tried to move my Downham Royals out of the greenhouse but they are too heavy and my hip is killing me, especially in the mornings.
My Weston Flamingo tuber has been struggling. Dad said that he thinks that I might have over watered it, so he is probably right.
My Weston Flamingo tuber was very shrivelled when I bedded it like all the other tubers. One of it's lobes came off and so I put it in with it, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
It had done really well, top right of my Westons, (Left is Spanish Dancer tuber which was pretty much the size on elephant leg)
But this is what it had become:
So yesterday I took action. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I decided to separate the tubers.
The whole thing makes me cringe but I wanted to see what I could do to save the tuber, after it had done so well.
The withered part broke into 3 pieces, a dead bit and 2 pieces each with some leaves attached. So I've planted both of these and the other piece. None of which had a lot of root.
So potentially I could end up with 3 plants or none.
I had started doing this while HH was mixing up the weedkiller and I just wanted to finish it before the whole thing died. I wanted to put each part in a big pot but I've run out. The 2 in the seed trays have a hill of compost over them. What is meant to be will happen and if it isn't then it won't but at least I've given it a chance.
When I was with Dad in the greenhouse, he asked me if there was anything else I wanted. Another Pirate...? Left with just the Candy Jayne but one thing he told me was what I suspected, with the Clearview Audrey, he had only had 2 rooted cuttings and given me one. Hope that it grows.

Mine is no further on yet, but if it does grow I will leave it alone, rather than cuttings in June onwards.

The other thing I did was pot on my 1st 6 seedlings.
Red pots = Red Balloon, Yellow = Eastwood Moonlight, Orange = Weston Spanish Dancer and my Dark Blue has by Dowham Royal seedlings. The 2 little ones are also Downham Royal. Also note the tiny Candy Jayne in left hand corner.
The 1st 6 were planted 2.5.2014, so to my mind - not speaking as I have any knowledge, the roots look good and I am hoping that I am potting them on at about the right time. Dad was talking about 2 weeks till planting, so more like 2 years before I'm ready. If ever.

Came home from work and was handed a note from my Dad. He was still there, poor Mum hadn't managed to escape yet another Father Daughter discussion about dahlias. Poor Mum.In greenhouse 1 Jomanda 1 Ruskin Myra
In lounge 1 Clearview Jenny (It was only potted today!)
I also potted the only cutting of Clearview Edie! - so if I plant tuber and keep cutting as pot tuber - we should have stock for next year!

So that was the good news, the bad news message from him is that I've over watered my Downham Royal - (The best tuber that I have of it). It's the one that is sitting on the vermiculite, with some compost but not a lot. It never was supposed to stay in the tub, just there as a temp measure.
Not going to go on about it. Too sad.
After they had gone, I went to the greenhouse, put it on it's side and let the water run out. It took a long time. Admittedly I try and live and learn but I hope that I've not killed it. I hope that we have some really hot sunny days and that I've done enough to rescue it.
If I could get away with it I'd have brought it up to the house to help it dry out but there is no way in the universe that HH would let me.

It is not the end of the world ML as you have given two away to be looked after, which was a great idea. I am pleased that you found Clearview Jenny.

My bad news, was a bit of an sos about 1 of my seedlings.
I kept indoors last night, to keep a closer eye on it but he wasn't kept with the other dahlias. Dad thinks it might be some form of insect but we can't spot any. (Yesterday) He said just squirt with some insecticide - haven't got any. I hoped that Dad would take it and dose it but he didn't really want to. So I think Dad might bring something to spray it with.
Don't really want it to be in the greenhouse if it means that it could spread, nor would my Dad - which is probably the point.
This is what he looks like today:
