Speaking of pictures:
This was last years plan
Yellow = plants grown last year and growing this year.
This was an outline plan for this year...
And then just before I started planting, I changed my mind.

So no balls there at all this year. Downham Royal is the 1st plant along the greenhouse and will be joined by a Weston Pirate, Weston Starburst, Weston Pirate and maybe Marson George on the end. Not sure yet.

My giants will be going along the shed, 1 Trooper Dan, 3 Sir Alf and a Kenora Valentine will be going somewhere along there as well. I've just got to clear it of tomato grow sacks from last year.

Lots of food for the earwigs then ML Just joking. like the planning bit. humpf Didn't manage to stick to the plan tho Sweetpea.
Row 1 small semi cactus: Clearview Audrey, Ryecroft Zoe, Ruskin Myra, Oakwood Cherwell and Clearview Jenny.
Row 2 medium semi cactus: Eastwood Moonlight, Eastwood Star, Peach Delight and Weston Stardust - Miniature Cactus.
Row 3 Weston Corsair, Weston Stardust, Weston Flamingo, Weston Spanish Dancer all miniature cactus / semi cactus + Candy Jayne - large semi cactus.
Row 4 Lismore Moonlight pom, Marston George miniature dec, Willo's Violet pom and Gurtla Twilight pom.
Row 5 Nuland Josephine large pom, Tisa unclassified pom, Moor place pom, Gurtla Twilight pom, Willo's Violet pom.
Tisa, one of the dark 'black dahlias', Marston George dark, Moor place dark with Downham Royal and Weston Pirate just round the corner - so lots of dark dahlias... wonder if any of the bees would like to visit them around seed time...
Candy Jayne is at the end of the row because I read the day I started planting it had tall plants. A replacement to Staleen Condessa. Last year Weston Spanish Dancer could hold it's own so that is why I have that next to it.
I'll explain more when I put some photos up but there really was a method to my madness. 'onest guv'nor.

pot tubers.
This year logic rightly or wrong here. I'm growing some of mine as pot tubers. My Weston Stardust were already quite big when I was given them, Dad had also been given a couple of tubers that didn't grow. So I'm think that maybe it will mean I'll end up with a growable tuber at the end of it. Also hoping that it might slow them down / restrict them a little. Think I'll try that with my Mary's Jomanda after the monster I had last year. Different stock, last one had rubbish tuber after I had botched the digging it up aspect. Going to do the same with my Jomanda tuber from last year that was too big for me but I'll plant the plants direct.
I really don't know what I am doing, just making it up as I go along really. Same as ever.

I grow what I call double purpose dahlia's. I plant some still in their 3-4 in pots, this gives me later blooms and a pot tuber, I found it had no effect on the size of blooms.

I found that 3" pots usually meant the tuber being so restricted that I had to cut the pot away so I tended to use 5" pots for my pot tubers. left them in their pots and laid on their sides in a shallow trench in unheated g'house to overwinter. never lost a tuber that way whereas trying to overwinter ground tubers always gave me losses.
