Last 2 not yet ordered...
Majestic Athalie
and
Eastwood Star
Dad is going to make an order there, he wouldn't now order those two for himself after last time on principle. Fair enough his choice but not mine. So I am hoping that this time, they send what they are selling. Ultimately, if you stop growing varieties, then they are lost forever and I'm not going to let these 2 go without a fight.
Worked with Downham Royal which was still going as a cut flower but superseded by modern exhibition varieties in shows, so proud as punch when I beat the Jomandas and other competitors in non novice classes. Old timers don't mean no good.
Good dahlias are good dahlias no matter how old a variety and that's the same with all plants. Has your Dad will know, the Athalie's were the top cactus for showing until the Kiwi's came along. Have you managed to find Eastwood Star then ? Dad ordered it before but I don't think he ordered Majestic Athalie, they have some sort of data base system where they refer to each variety by a number. What Dad ordered wasn't what he had delivered. The code and the name isn't /wasn't a match/ed.
That's what happens when your write a number on the label rather than a variety name.
same again this year wasn't it?

However I was very happy with those ordered from Halls and Euro dahlia / Station House

same again this year wasn't it? I think they need to go round their dahlia's when in bloom, instead of a number replace with the names of the variety. I ordered one small decorative, it turned out it was a medium dec when it flowered, not a exhibition type neither.

I've been out collecting some more seed. Well it is pouring. I have more than enough seed, but I am still collecting them. Will be glad when the plants have been cut down.

Had a great half term but this weekend has been tough poor Fairy has had ear ache and has been in with me the last couple of nights, in floods of tears. Won't have the luxury of managing to have a catch up sleep lie in because I will have at least 1 daughter to take to school tomorrow.

How horrible for Fairy. I am sorry for her and you too. Is it because of a cold or does she suffer from regular earaches?

Fairy has gone to school but has a Doctor appointment later. We had a better night in as far as when I went to bed she went back to her bed and I think that she is so tired she slept through, had to wake her up to get her ready for school today. (But that isn't unusual for her) (Pirate is the light sleeper)

Cherry she does get earaches. When she was younger she had to have grommits fitted because she had glue ear and it affected her hearing. They are out now and for the majority of time it is ok but there are times when she can't hear properly (and not the 'selective hearing' - n.b. we get that at home to) and when that happens I normally let the school know but then get told that she is fine at class. Think that like most things it gets worse or you are more aware of things later in the day.
Anyway I am less tired today but I won't be happy/ier until she has been to see the Doctor and gets some medicine, it's awful when a child is crying and there is nothing that you can do to make it better.

Absolutely hammering with rain here. So why do I want to go out and collect more seed? Been to Drs Fairy has ear infection and medicine prescribed. No day off school but Doctor was running late so she missed her school dinner, cheese pasta instead.
